Thyroid

This document discusses astrological indicators for thyroid disorders based on analyzing the charts of 10 individuals, including twins with opposing thyroid conditions. It proposes that mercury on an angle represents the thyroid gland according to the Halevi model of astrology and the body. For thyroid dysfunction, the chart must also contain the second part of the significator involving Mars and Neptune aspects, which often influence the 6th house of health. Case studies of individuals with hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and thyroid cancer are presented to demonstrate charts that contain both mercury on an angle and the Mars/Neptune configuration.

Astrology of Thyroid Disorders
Ten Individuals
Including Twins--One Hyperthyroid, the Other Hypothyroid

Introduction
This paper is the second following a seed paper written in November, 2000 about identifying astrological significators for the endocrine glands thereby
facilitating diagnosis of diseases of those glands. The first paper was written June-July of this year and explored the astrology of pancreatic disorders—Types I
and II diabetes and pancreatic cancer, link just a little further down this page.

Since the pancreatic paper and this one are both about the endocrine glands and their astrological indicators, this paper contains some repeated material from the
pancreatic one. It has been adjusted for the difference in organs being discussed.

Here is the link to the seed paper: Astrology and the Endocrine Glands: The Pancreas and Pituitary--SARAH.

Sarah had had a large, grapefruit-sized non-cancerous pancreatic tumor and also a very serious back condition. Resulting from several injuries at different
periods of time, among other things her back condition led to a markedly low level of indicators for human growth hormone--premature aging. Both conditions
are associated with mal- or under-function of the pancreas and anterior pituitary, respectively.

This astrological method shows that planets “on Angles” are more powerful than any other condition in an astrological nativity. The meaning(s) they symbolize
must express in the individual’s life and they may have differing but consistent interpretations at different or the same stages of life.

For the purpose of reading this paper, it is necessary only to know that “an Angle” is a general term for Midheaven (MC) and Ascendant (Asc), roughly the
noon and sunrise points on each chart of 360°. And a planet is “on an Angle” when it is conjunction, square, or opposition those points. Acceptable variation
from exact—called an orb—is usually ±2°. For purposes of this research, it has been extended to ±3°.

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 1/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Another, well-known research astrologer defined “on an Angle” differently—see Footnote 1, at bottom of page..

Sarah had been born with moon and saturn on Angles in her pre-progressed chart, with the moon 1° 17’ before a square to C MC, and saturn being 7’ after the
opposition (but retrograde, so moving toward it). And, since both were non-harmonic, they were on those same Angles in all twelve charts per individual created
by this method.

In the Halevi model, found in the book The Anatomy of Fate: Astrology and Kabbalah (cited below) by Z’ev ben Shimon Halevi, the pancreas was associated
with the moon; the anterior pituitary, with saturn. So it was interesting that Sarah had those planets on Angles.

Halevi’s model is created by putting the planets in nearly astronomical order inside a diagram of the body. It starts with the sun = thymus’ ruler, then moon =
pancreas’ ruler, and so on, forming a clockwise spiral in the body which culminates at the pineal body and neptune. When a planet is a "ruler" of some part of
the chart, body, or life, it has special sway over that area. Halevi's model looks like this:

Footnote 2, cited and shown at bottom, contains two tables which show (tropical, Western—I do not know about Vedic) astrology’s fairly standard correlation of
the signs and planets with parts and functions of the body. Following them is an analysis of the occurrence of mercury in Taurus—correlated according to those
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 2/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

tables by both sign and planet with the thyroid—in all ten charts of the individuals in this study. Here "mercury in Taurus," of course, refers either to its
conception or birth sidereal position or one of their harmonics.

Combining Halevi’s model with what I know about planets on Angles, we have a tentative way to identity which endocrine organ might malfunction. It will be
represented by one of Halevi’s planets that will be on an Angle at birth. This part of the significator is called "the first part of the significator." The “might” part
needs qualification. To represent a diseased endocrine organ, the chart also has to have astrological indicators symbolizing pathology, discussed below under
"the second part of the significator."

Before we can proceed to listing significator for thyroid disease, we need to know what is meant by the terms “set” and “significator.”

A set is a combination of Angle(s) and planet(s) in relation to each other of a square, conjunction, or opposition within acceptable orbs (usually 2°
but defined further below under Method) which also includes houses influenced by planets in the set.

A significator is the combination in one or more sets which list planets and their house influence which describe a given condition or event.

Significators work in all areas of life. Their “net sum” describes a great deal about our lives.

I have written a number of papers on health problems. Here are their links ::

Many readers of these papers on medical, psychological and sexual conditions read only about that condition, or perhaps one other. They thus have no idea how well this very different
astrological method works. To get some idea of that, read some of the sixteen (with more to come!) papers on twins on this site. In traditional astrology, twins are hard to differentiate.
This astrology demonstrates the differences in astrology which account for their life differences. Here is a link to one of the twin papers:The Silent Twins. Links to the other twin papers

The First Part of the Significator for Thyroid Dysfunction

In all of the examples below, including hyperthyroid, hypothyroid, and death from thyroid cancer, the first part of a two-part significator, representing “thyroid”
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 3/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

according to the Halevi model, is mercury on an Angle.

It does not matter if the mercury is harmonic or not, nor does it have to influence a 6th house.

The chart (of 12 possible theoretically) that describes the disease will be the one (or sometimes, several) which, in addition to the mercury on an
Angle, contains the mars/neptune part of the significator--the second part.

It would be reasonable to expect that mercury would have to rule a 6th house of health, but that has proven not to be the case. It is the
mars/neptune part of the significator which must influence a 6th, either together (in the same set) or individually (in separate sets and
"summed").

There are a number of quite reasonable potential FAQs—the same for both the pancreatic paper and the thyroid paper—with regard to using the first, Halevi part
of the significator. I have put those I could think of in an appendix : Appendix A—FAQs About Using the Halevi Model to Identify Potentially Diseased
Endocrine Organs.

While these potential FAQs have to be answered at some time, they do not have to be answered now. No form of research comes up with all the answers at once.
This paper and the one on the pancreas demonstrate enough consistency in the astrology of these diseases to merit further research along the same lines.

We need to define the main diseases of the thyroid before the second part of the significator can be defined further.

Defining Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism

In the descriptions below, written in purple to connote quotes, I have additionally marked certain parts—ones that will be emphasized in the readings below—in.
red. Thyroid function is extremely complex. So, in this paper I felt a lengthy description of thyroid function more necessary than pancreatic function in the paper
on the pancreas.

Hyperthyroidism, often referred to as an overactive thyroid, is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces and secretes excessive amounts of the free (not protein bound, and
circulating in the blood) thyroid hormones, triodothyronine (T3) and/or thyroxine (T4). This is the opposite of hypothyroidism ('sluggish thyroid'), which is the reduced production and
secretion of T3 and/or T4. Graves’ disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism is one cause of thyrotoxicosis—the hypermetabolic clinical syndrome which occurs when there are elevated serum levels of T3 and/or T4. Thyrotoxicosis can also occur
without hyperthyroidism. Some people develop thyrotoxicosis due to inflammation of the thyroid gland (thyroiditis), which can lead to excessive release of thyroid hormone already
stored in the gland (without the accelerated hormone production that characterizes hyperthyroidism).

Hyperthyroidism may be asymptomatic, but when it is not, symptoms are due to an excess of thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone is important at a cellular level, affecting nearly every
type of tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone functions as a controller of the pace of all of the processes in the body. This pace is called the metabolic rate..

If there is too much thyroid hormone, every function of the body tends to speed up. Therefore, some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism may be nervousness, irritability, increased
perspiration, heart racing, hand tremors, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, thinning of the skin, fine brittle hair, and muscular weakness—especially in the upper arms and thighs. More
frequent bowel movements may occur, but diarrhea is uncommon. Weight loss, sometimes significant, may occur despite a good appetite (though 10% of people with a hyperactive
thyroid experience weight gain), vomiting may occur, and, for women, menstrual flow may lighten and menstrual periods may occur less often.
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 4/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Thyroid hormone is critical to normal function of cells. In excess, it both overstimulates metabolism and exacerbates the effect of the sympathetic nervous system [the one that controls
the fight or flight responses], causing "speeding up" of various body systems and symptoms resembling an overdose of adrenaline. These include fast heart beat and symptoms of
palpitations, nervous system tremor such as of the hands and anxiety symptoms, digestive system hypermotility, unintended weight loss, and (in "lipid panel" blood tests) a lower and
sometimes unusually low serum cholesterol…

Graves' disease is an autoimmune disease. It most commonly affects the thyroid, frequently causing it to enlarge to twice its size or more (goiter), become overactive, with related
hyperthyroid symptoms such as increased heartbeat, muscle weakness, disturbed sleep, and irritability. It can also affect the eyes, causing bulging eyes. It affects other systems of the
body, including the skin, heart, circulation and nervous system.

…Grave’s disease sometimes appears after childbirth, and has a female:male incidence of 5:1 to 10:…

The trigger for auto-antibody production is not known. There appears to be a genetic predisposition for Graves' disease, suggesting that some people are more prone than others to
develop TSH receptor activating antibodies due to a genetic cause…

Since Graves' disease is an autoimmune disease which appears suddenly, often quite late in life…

And then we have the explanation for hypothyroidism, also from Wikipedia:

Hypothyroidism underactive thyroid is a state in which the thyroid gland does not produce a sufficient amount of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).
Iodine deficiency is often cited as the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide…Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide. In iodine-replete
[high in available iodine] areas of the world, hypothyroidism is most commonly caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, or otherwise as a result of either an absent thyroid gland or a
deficiency in stimulating hormones from the hypothalamus or pituitary…

And, inserting this from http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/120937 (7/24/13):

Hashimoto thyroiditis is part of the spectrum of autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) and is characterized by the destruction of thyroid cells by various cell- and antibody-mediated
immune processes. This condition is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States in individuals older than 6 years.

…Hypothyroidism usually has an insidious onset, with signs and symptoms slowly progressing over months to years. Thus, the presentation of patients with hypothyroidism may be
subclinical, may be asymptomatic, and may be found from routine screening of thyroid function.

Returning to the material from Wikipedia.com:

Hypothyroidism can result from postpartum thyroiditis up to 9 months after giving birth, characterized by transient hyperthyroidism followed by transient hypothyroidism… [or, in the
case of some women, the hypothyroidism becomes more or less permanent.]

Even mild or subclinical hypothyroidism is known to adversely affect fertility.

The hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis plays a key role in maintaining thyroid output. Thyrotropin-releasing hormone is released from the hypothalamus, which stimulates the
production of TSH by the pituitary. TSH in turn stimulates thyroid activity. If the hypothalamus or pituitary are damaged, then this will impair the activity of the thyroid gland…

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 5/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Stress is known to be a significant contributor to thyroid dysfunction…

Some of the symptoms for early-appearing hypothyroidism include thin, brittle fingernails, dry, itchy skin, weight gain and water retention, hair loss, rapid thoughts, depressed reflexes,
muscle cramps and joint pain, mood instability. irritability, constipation, fatigue, sleeplessness, cold intolerance, decreased sweating, a slower heart rhythm, and female infertility.

Some of the symptoms for late-appearing hypothyroidism are thinning of the outer third of the eyebrow, dry puffy facial skin, slow speech and hoarse voice, deepening of the voice, carpel
tunnel syndrome, bilateral parathesia, a low basal body temperature, hypotension, goiter, and decreased libido in men…

The important word in the all of the descriptions above about Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism and Graves’ hyperthyroidism is the word immune.

Two planets are always involved in representing allergies, auto-immunity, and immune dysfunction. They are mars and neptune.

So we want to know more about what those two planets sponsor astrologically.

The Second Part of the Significator For Thyroid Dysfunction—Mars and Neptune
Mars symbolizes initiative, aggression, strife, cuts, tears, friction, injuries, and chemicals (the burning or corrosive aspect), among other things.

Neptune symbolizes confusion, fantasy, creativity, openness, porosity, and also fumes and gases. Combined with mars, it produces an over-sensitivity resulting
in noxious, confused, or highly charged responses. Or, it places the individual in noxious conditions. Or, in its more sociological interpretation as “crazy” it
renders their behavior at odds relative to the standard of behavior.

When saturn joins mars and neptune as an influence, it increases their other-than-normal results. Forefront (i.e., on an Angle) in any chart, representing physical,
emotional, or psychological conditions, mars/saturn/neptune represents siege. But saturn does not produce immune dysfunction. It just aggravates it when it
occurs.

The exact form of siege conditions produced by forefront mars/saturn/neptune depend on two things: (1) the chart they are in, and (2) the path they
take, that is, the houses influenced by planets in their set.

Here are some papers showing the effects of forefront mars/neptune in charts:

Paper on Asthma
Paper on Homosexuality Showing AIDS Occurring in Some Individuals
Paper on Death of Bruce Lee of Brain Swelling
Paper on Dr. Tom Dooley’s Death from Melanoma
Paper on John Nash’s Schizophrenia
Paper on Simpson’s Financial Siege Conditions When He Hired the Dream Team
Paper on Guru Osho Which Includes His Allergic Susceptibility.

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 6/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

We have defined the planetary significators involved in thyroid conditions. Now we need to finish their description by adding houses they must influence. We
also need to know if they are limited to certain (of 12 possible) charts.

Houses Influenced By the Thyroid Significator

No matter which chart the thyroid significator occurs in, one of the planets in the mars/neptune part of it must influence:

An Angle and a 6th house.

6th house influence can come through planets in the set fuling a 6th house, or throught the mars/neptune part of it being in a 6th house.
I might add, that it looks like the 8th house is also involved, but it is premature to conclude it must be.
Also, the 4th house is usually involved when any condition influences us at the end of our lives, either during the later years and/or at the time of our
death. But this part of the significator can come into being at the time of death.

Charts Showing Thyroid Dysfunction

Typical charts in which thyroid disease occurs are usually the 1st, 6th, 7th, and 12th charts.

It can, however, work through atypical charts, which—at least theoretically, could be any one of the remaining charts--one through twelve. We need to remain
open to finding what is there, not what we believe should be there.

A shorthand way of expressing all of the above about the significator is Angle/mars/neptune/(saturn)/(4th)/6th/(8th)--which does not identify possible
charts. Items in parentheses are tentative house influences. Written this way, of course, we also cannot discriminate whether the planets are actually on Angles or
only influencing them through a ruler in the set. A tentative way of doing so would be when “Angle” comes first in the description of a set—like
Angle/mars/neptune—it means that those planets are on an Angle. When it comes last—like mars/neptune/Angle—it means that one of the planets in the set
(here mars or neptune) rules an Angle. Right now I am not sure I will stick to such a convention.

A Brief Comment on Astrological Research

In the examples given below, as for most astrological research, we often are less sure than would be preferred that the time of birth—so crucial to good research
—is exact. Life happens, and exact time of birth is not always the priority of people at the birth scene. Date of diagnosis is often lacking. Diagnosis itself is
often unclear—in this instance, is it hyperthyroid, or hypothyroid? Date of death occurs more often. That is useful, but only in ascertaining that the original
significator has been repeated at death--if it was the cause of death. It misses the truly significant part of what progressed astrology initiates experiencing the
condition.

Because of the importance of returns with this method, place of diagnosis and date of diagnosis and death would have been extremely helpful.

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 7/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Biographical comments on the basic personality of the individual are often sketchy. Some times all known is that an individual had a particular disease. As can
be seen below with Chief Justice Rehnquist, knowledge about his focus in life was instrumental in identifying the chart that exhibited his thyroid problem. Many
times all that is available is that an individual suffers from a particular disease.

We are almost ready for the examples. Since this astrological method is so different from traditional Western astrology, I have to introduce some comments
about the way it works.

Astrological Method
This method is not traditional. It uses a birth and conception planets and their harmonics and houses, all of which share the same axis. :

This astrology uses the sidereal positions of the planets based on the Fagan-Bradley’s SVP. My view of the practical differences between the
tropical (Western) and the sidereal (Eastern) zodiacs can be found at Tropical vs. Sidereal Zodiac.

Harmonics are taken from the sidereal position of the planets. The Egyptian harmonic, discussed in the paper “About This Method” (link just
below), is used.

”Lights” include suns, moons, and moons nodes. When mercury rules one or two Angles, it also acts like a light and has the same orb as the other
lights. The MC or Asc also acts like a light, but one with only a 2° orb, because when a set is on an Angle it does not need a light to be active.

This method uses only conjunctions, applying and separating squares, and oppositions. (There is a table in the paper on Chartrules which shows
which traditional aspects--e.g., semi-square, trine, quincunx, etc.--in the sidereal are converted to conjunctions, squares, and oppositions in the
harmonics and which charts they occur in.) Orbs for static planets with lights is 5°; without lights, about 2.5°. Orb for MC/planet or Asc/planet is
2°. Planets so related to each other are referred to as in the same “set.” A set, then, is two or more planets (or an Angle) connected to each other
through conjunction, square, and opposition within the defined orbs. Sets without Angles are more active when they contain a light, and less active
without one. Learning to look in terms of “crosses” can be helpful in rapidly finding planets that are in the same set.

Because this approach uses both a birth and conception chart and they share the same axis, birth houses usually overlap different houses of the
conception chart. These are called “house overlaps.” As it turned out in this paper, house overlaps were not significant. They can be for some other
conditions. Throughout this paper I use the convention when writing about house overlaps of putting the birth house first, then the conception
house. So, for instance, a “5th/1st” overlap refers to an overlap of birth 5th house with conception 1st house in that order.

Birth planets (including their harmonics) rule only birth houses. Conception planets (including their harmonics) rule only conception houses.

For a more thorough explanation of this astrological approach, refer to the following papers:

About This Method

Empirically-Derived Chart Reading Rules

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 8/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

In the partial charts shown below, birth planets and their harmonics are inside the circle. Conception planets and their harmonics are outside the
circle. Conception sidereal planets are red; conception harmonic ones, black. Birth sidereal planets are blue; birth harmonic ones, green.
Occasionally, because of space limitations, I have had to violate this inside/outside arrangement, but the color coding remains constant.

Abbreviations used are b = birth, c = conception, and t = transiting. Even though the harmonic used for each chart is always two more than the
chart’s number, in these papers—for ease of reading—I write the harmonic number the same as the chart number. For example, the 5th chart uses
the 7th harmonic, but I have established the convention of writing harmonic planets for the 5th chart as, e.g., c5 mars, which reads, “the harmonic
for the 5th chart for conception mars.” Pc3 mars stands for the harmonic for the 3rd chart of its progressed conception mars. T5 pluto represents
transiting (at the time of the event) pluto for the 5th chart.

Order of Presentation of Cases

This study has the good fortune of including birth data on a set of twins born three minutes apart, one of whom became hyperthyroid while the other was
hypothyroid (date unknown). That was fortunate for three reasons.

First, we can count on the time of birth of twins being recorded to the nearest minute because doctors and parents want to know precisely.
Second, we can thus count on their thyroid significators being clearly represented in at least one chart.
Third, three minutes apart makes very little difference in their astrology. The challenge was to explain how one became hyper- and the other hypo-thyroid.

Unfortunately, we have no date of diagnosis. Regardless, their astrology comes first in this paper.

I have written a number of papers on twin differences. Here is the link to one of them. It contains links to all the others: One Twin Died of SIDS While the
Other Did Not .

So, this paper starts with the analysis of the “thyroid twins.”

In the paper on pancreatic diseases, there was a rough correlation between the strength of significator at birth and—in order—diabetes type I, diabetes type II,
and cancer of the pancreas. The significators for cancer of the pancreas came into position only around the time of the diagnosis.

That kind of rough order from strongest to weakest did not seem to work in this paper where we are looking at hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and cancer of
the thyroid. So, I didn't try to arrange the examples in that order.

Instead, at the end of the paper, under Discussion, I created a table showing the strength of the significator. It is always strongest when on an Angle and
influencing 6th house. It gets less strong when not on an Angle but still influencing an Angle and a 6th house. It decreases in strength yet again when two or
more Angles or sets (whether natal or progressed) have to be “summed” to get the full significator. Looking at the table, readers can judge for themselves that
their order relative to disease is not so clear as happened with pancreatic diseases.

For those who know astrology, it might be a good idea to print out the partial charts of the twins shown below. Discussion of their astrology is more complicated
and longer than usual, so having both charts in view would probably be helpful.

Sleeping twins
Picture from babysleepsite.com
Twins 43272
American identical twin girls. They are mirror-twins but their health issues are on the same sides. The first-born, 7:54 AM, is severely bipolar and taking Lithium. She had Grave's
disease (overactive thyroid) and after a thyroid storm, had to have it radioactively destroyed.

The second-born, 7:57 AM, is depressed with a history of panic and anxiety disorders. She has an under active thyroid.

They are both infertile due to high body temperatures, unable to even conceive. They become ill at the same time (older one had bronchitis, younger one broke her foot same night, mid-
2001…

A difference of just three minutes between the birth of twins is a very small difference. Even with harmonics, there will be very little difference between almost
everything in their charts. The faster moving planets, especially moon and mercury, will diverge more, and they will also show greater divergence as we go up
in harmonics.

For these girls, it is their 6th chart which shows their thyroid problems (so their harmonics are moving 8x faster than their sidereal parent). Their nearly identical
sets are labeled Set (1) (first-born) and Set (1a), (second-born), etc.

The Angle/mercury for Twin I, the first-born, looks like this :

Set (1) B Asc 20 Taurus 51

c6 mercury 21 Taurus 47 ruler of c 8th house

Here is what it looks like for the second-born twin:

Set (1a) B Asc 21 Taurus 36

c6 mercury 21 Taurus 47 ruler of c 8th house

Notice that while there is a difference between their birth Ascendants (B Asc), none exists between their c6 mercuries. Only their harmonic moons are different.
For example, the difference between the two c6 moons is 12’—only 1/5 of a degree.

I already mentioned Sets (1) and (1a) above.

Sets (2) and (2a) show C MC in Leo in b 4th house conjunct b6 neptune (which does not influence a 6thhouse).

Sets (3) and (3a) show B MC in Aquarius in the same set with c6 mars, ruler of c 6th house, in Aquarius and c mercury, ruler of c 8th house, in Leo and C Asc
at 2 Scorpio 00. That is, it shows 2Angle/mercury/mars/6th/8th.

So far, we have an Angle/mercury, an Angle/neptune, and an Angle/mercury/mars. This chart looks good for a thyroid problem except it lacks a neptune/6th
influence.

Sets (4) and (4a) show a light/mars/neptune/4th/6th/Asc with influence to C Asc and both 6th houses. B sun in Aries rules b 4th house, c mars in Libra rules
c 6th house and C Asc in b 6th house, and c neptune co-rules (13 of 25°) c 4th house. This set provides the missing light/neptune/6th influence and completes
the significator (known so far) for thyroid problems.

Assuming it shows astrologically, their opposite thyroid fates can only be a function of the differences in their Angles. With their planets identical, the difference
between planet-to-Angle is their greatest difference. :

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 12/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Hyperthyroid first-born’s b6 neptune in Leo to C MC is 1° 8’, while hypothyroid second-born’s is only 20’.
Hyperthyroid first-born’s c6 mars in Aquarius to B MC is 51’, while hypothyroid second-born’s is only 4’.
(a) Hyperthyroid first-born’s c6 mars to C Asc is only 11’, while hypothyroid second-born’s is 49’.
Hyperthyroid first-born’s c mercury in Leo to B MC is 1° 35’, while hypothyroid second-born’s is only 48’.
Hyperthyroid first-born’s c mercury in Leo to C Asc is 33’, while hypothyroid second-born’s is only 5’.
Hyperthyroid first-born’s c6 mercury in Taurus to B Asc is 56’, while second-born’s is only 11’

The second-born, hypothyroid twin’s planets-to-Angles are much closer every single time except for (a) above.

I would have thought that the hyperthyroid twin would have had the planets closest to Angles. After all, I have seen again and again that closer to the Angle is
stronger. That was not the case here. Or at least in terms of end-result thyroid production that was not the case.

We can speculate about the reason it apparently worked in reverse with these twins.

To do that, we have to go back to have more information about progressing Angles. The discussion of it below takes into consideration that some readers of this
paper may not be astrologers:

There are twelve signs (Aries, Taurus, etc.) of 30° length each that comprise the 360° of the circle of any chart. Midheavens—representative of the
approximate noon point of any particular locality—traverse the whole 360° based on where one is on Earth at the time. As the earth rotates at any
one place these Midheavens (tentative chart Midheavens) change by about one degree approximately every four minutes of real time. Three minutes
difference between births of these two twins means their Midheavens are approximately ¾ of a degree different from each other. Three-quarters
of one degree equals forty-five (45’) minutes difference.

Every one's conception Angles and planets begin progressing from the time of conception. Their birth Angles and planets begin progressing at birth.

Progressing Midheavens move approximately 5’ per month—the same as the sun, whose progressed arc for one month (from a little under 5'/month
to a little over-depending on the time of year) is what is used to progress the Midheaven. Birth sun for birth Midheaven, conception sun for
conception Midheaven.

Now when we look at that 45’ difference between the Midheavens (MCs) of the two twins we can see that by progression they add up to about nine
months difference. The later-born, hypothyroid twin’s Midheaven hits (progresses to) a planet about nine months before her sibling’s.

We are going to explore that appreciable difference. First, some information about the development of the thyroid and the immune system in the fetus.

From http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/12/101216165519.htm (7/21/13) on the development and function of the fetal immune system: re findings of
Dec. 17, 2010., UCSF researchers are finding that the fetal immune system has an entirely different origin than the adult one. In brief, the fetal one is much more tolerant of “foreign”
things. The adult immune system reacts to foreign substances with an attack on the substance. The fetal immune system does not, it allows much more to happen without attacking.

They stated they do not know why the fetal immune system switches over the adult one some time in the 3rd trimester [7-9 months].

Embryonic Thyroid
Picture from commons.wikimedia.org
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid#Embryological_development (8/2/2013) on the embryological development of the Thyroid: Thyrotropin-releasing
hormone (TRH) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) start being secreted from the fetal hypothalamus and pituitary at 18-20 weeks of gestation, and fetal production of thyroxine
(T4) reach a clinically significant level at 18–20 weeks [ca. 4-1/2 to 5 months]…

And claiming an even earlier date of fetal thyroid hormone production, from
http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/thyroid/thyroid_preg.html (8/2/2013) :The fetus has two potential sources of thyroid hormones - it's own
thyroid and the thyroid of it's mother. Human fetuses acquire the ability to synthesize thyroid hormones at roughly 12 weeks {ca. 3 months] of gestation…

Making use of the above information, if our significator is correct we know that both twins have the astrology for immune-sponsored thyroid problems. But twin
II (second-born, hypothyroid) has most of those planets closer to Angles.

What, after that, could we possible look for to potentially separate these two twin from each other into hypothyroid and hyperthyroid.?

We are most interested in neptune exactly on an Angle because without neptune there is no immune reaction, no super-sensitivity. Among many other
possibilities, mercury/mars represents stress (mars) to the thyroid (mercury), but by itself it has nothing to do with an immune reaction.

Both twins have their conception Midheaven (C MC ) prior to a conjunction to b6 neptune at 12 Leo 44. After conception, both MCs started progressing toward
it.

The second-born, hypothyroid twin’s C MC was conjunct b6 neptune at a little past 4 months gestation, that is, 16-17 weeks, roughly within the time period that
the fetus has established its own thyroid production, but is still in the “tolerant” phase of immune response. Especially for this second-born twin, when her
progressing C MC hit that neptune, all the other planets were still very close to Angles. In fact, what I believe is that it then sponsored a fetal immune reaction.

The first-born, hyperthyroid twin’s progressed C MC is only at 12 Leo 20 at birth, still 24’ (or nearly five months) prior to the conjunction. She is around 5
months old when the conjunction is exact. That means she experienced the conjunction after both her own thyroid was functional and her immune response had
become more like that of an adult, when it was “less tolerant” but also more active. And her planets-to-Angles were also further away from her C MC. Her
reaction was unstable, and may not have even occurred until she actually had the immune reaction that resulted in her diagnosis of Graves' disease (sure wish I
had that date).
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 14/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

This theory raises some objections that have to be discussed:

(1) It can be argued that the b6 neptune (or any other birth planet or Angle) in question in the above discussion does not even exist in the chart until the
twins are born. After all, that neptune is a reflection of the position of the planets (or their harmonics) at the time of birth. But as this astrology shows,
conception and birth form part of the specifications for creating and maintaining a human being. It is not as if one could build a whole child in utero on
conceptions positions alone. That would be like building a house using only the left half of the drafting plans. Birth and conception are intimately tied to
each other through a formula so exact it gives us the date, hours, minutes, and seconds of conception when we have to work backwards from a known
birth its conception. Therefore, even though at our level of reality the birth planets are not there until birth, in the reality of the fetus they are there, and
precisely so, from the time of conception.

Even astronomically this is not as far fetched as might be believed. Planets have a regularity known as orbits, the formula for which creates our
ephemeredes listing the position of the planets on a daily basis. Going backward or forward in time, those who understand the formula are able to say
exactly where each planet (and its harmonic) is.

(2) Again, the quoted literature stated that the early fetus’ immune system was much more tolerant to “foreigners.” What the literature is pointing out is
that fetal immune systems are much more tolerant relative to what is the overwhelming norm for all fetuses. I don’t have the actual examples, but the
overwhelming norm for most fetuses has to be that they lack the astrology for an immune reaction to their own thyroids. This particular fetus, however,
had that astrology. So she experienced the immune process known as Hashimoto’s disease.

I should re-state that the Internet literature on thyroid states that medicine does not know what causes the auto-immunity. Nor are they clear on the length of
time (assumed variable) between the auto-immune reaction, the destruction of thyroid cells (Hashimoto’s) and the presentation of the symptoms of the disease
As far as they know, it can be even years.

So the above explanation assumes the hypothyroid twin had her Hashimoto's reaction in utero and that some time after birth it sponsored her
hypothyroidism.

And it postulates that the first-born, hyperthyroid twin with the stronger immune system (past the 3rd trimester because she didn't even get her progressed
Angle/neptune until five months after birth) had her Graves' process occur not that distant from its actual diagnosis, at a time when her progressed planets
re-emphasized the significator for thyroid dysfunction.

So, too, the above explanation does not fall outside the present knowledge of medicine with regard to immune-sponsored thyroid disease.

Before we leave discussion of the twins, we should take a quick look at their 3rd charts to see if we can see there anything that contributes to the first-born being
bipolar and the second-born being more depressed and anxious.

Bipolar disorder is a function of saturn and uranus. The are almost opposite in expression. The paper on Patty Duke, as well as Schumann, goes into their
differing meanings. Here is the Duke link: Patty Duke and Bipolar Disorder . Sets producing bipolar disorder are harshest when one set in the 3rd chart is

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 15/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

composed of a lighted uranus with influence to an Angle and a 3rd house, while a completely different set does the same thing with saturn only. Then they
alternate in expression with no bridge between them and produce the alternating highs and lows we used to call manic depression.

Both twins have the following quite large set:

Set (3b) b3 uranus 15 Capricorn 40 ruler of B MC in c 3rd house

c3 uranus 16 Capricorn 49 co-ruler (13 of 36°) c 3rd house
c3 moon 17 Capricorn 29 ruler of c 9th house
c3 NN 17 Capricorn 29
c3 sun 18 Aries 42 ruler of C MC
b sun 19 Aries 44
c venus 18 Cancer 35
c mars 19 Libra 00 ruler of C Asc

I have put the lights and uranus in bold. Including the node, Set (3b) has four lights energizing two uranuses with influence to three Angles! That is a lot of
potential mania and is the source of the first-born twin’s mania.

But why does the second-born not express it? (She may at times, but clearly not enough to get her labeled as bipolar.)

I believe it has, again, to do with the closeness of a planet to an Angle.

TWIN B ASC B3 SATURN

FIRST-BORN, MANIC 20 TAURUS 51 21 TAURUS 46R
SECOND-BORN, DEPRESSED 21 TAURUS 36 21 TAURUS 46R

The second-born, depressed twin has her mind stuck on that very close Angle/saturn shown above in her 3rd chart. That plus her hyperthyroidism means she
doesn’t have the energy to express the manic set.

Her sister, whose saturn is almost a whole degree away from B Asc and much more “unstable” (that is, it probably takes a progressing or transiting light to
activate it) and who is also hyperthyroid, does have the energy. So she goes back and forth between her intermittent depressive set and Set (3a), her manic one.

We don't know what happened once her thyroid was radioactively destroyed and she was presumably on synthetic hormone. She should have been no longer
hyperthyroid. And I would have thought she would have had less energy for mania.

As for the anxiety and panic attacks experienced by the hypothyroid, depressed twin, those symptoms also occur with strong depression. When "in" the
consciousness of that close Angle/saturn, which would be often because of its closeness, there isn't much sensation or expression of personality. The normal
"forward thrust" that most of experience in our lives has been taken away. That is enough to cause any one panic attacks and anxiety.

We are ready to move on to people identified as adults with thyroid problems.

Kathryn Boehrer
American astrologer and author of her declination studies in 1975. Kt is widely known for her book "Declination: The Other Dimension" which was published in 1994 as the best selling
new book at the AFA Convention. It has continued to be a best selling book every year since then and is going into the 4th edition in 2001…

The following is a medical report of cancer in her own words:

…I updated my chart in September 1996 and realized that I probably would have to deal with cancer. In late October '96 I suddenly became very hoarse and immediately made an
appointment with my doctor… found nothing wrong….

I saw him again in December 1996 - still hoarse - no other symptoms - same diagnosis.

In Jan 1997 I saw him a third time and asked for the name of a good eye, ear, nose and throat doctor. I then made an immediate appointment and the specialist immediately warned me
that I might have cancer of the larynx. Immediate tests proved positive…

These doctors confirmed the diagnosis and I started a course of chemotherapy in February 1997 that lasted until the middle of July 1997. About a week later I began a 40-day course of
radiation. Tests indicated that I was cancer free…[in] June 1998 I became very weak and ill and hoarse.

Tests run …indicated that the cancer was reactivated. …

On 6/16/1998 they performed an emergency tracheotomy in order to facilitate my breathing and on 6/22/1998 a radical throat dissection was performed for the removal of my larynx,
thyroid, parathyroid, lymph nodes on both left and right sides…

I recovered quite rapidly… and I am fortunately able to eat without difficulty.

Kt Boehrer died on January 3, 2004 at around 8:30-9:00 AM in Seattle, WA [age 80]…

Note that with Boehrer the thyroid significator falls in her 10th chart and she was exceptionally sharing of her experience of her disease with the public (10th).

Her Angle/mercury occurs in the following set:

Set (7) B MC 20 Sagittarius 36

b6 mercury 20 Gemini 06

Note that she also has an Angle/moon (as well as other planets), a tentative first-part significator for pancreatic problems. This problem of more than one planet
on an Angle was discussed above in the addendum on FAQs.

I find myself tending to think that the planet "closest to the sun" (starting with the moon, which is actually not, but which we tend to see that way) as the one
that has priority in representing an endocrine gland. But assumption appears incorrect. For example, for Sarah it was saturn which was closest to an Angle and
the moon was next closest. But she experienced both problems--pancreatic and anterior pituitary, though there was no active disease in her pituitary except
under-function.

So, for now, that problem remains to be solved.

She additionally has neptune on C Asc (when including the SN in Libra), a permanent condition.

Progressions for her date of diagnosis [I used 2-1-1999] were not that good for showing her thyroid condition. It showed:

progressed b mercury, co-ruler of b 6th house, at 24 Gemini 33 conjunct c mars, ruler of c 6th house, at 24 Gemini 09 and pc6 neptune at 24 Pisces 23, but

Instead, it is the date of the birth of her first child, May 19, 1997, —viewed through the lens of her 6th chart--that is fruitful in reproducing the astrology
expected with a thyroid problem. Here are some of those sets:

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 21/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Internet literature stated that women some times suffer thyroid problems after the birth of a child. Some times this is hypothyroidism, some times Graves’
disease, and some times some lesser form of thyroid malfunction. The above astrology for the birth of Mrs. G’s first child raises the question, "is the correlation
between the birth of a child and ensuing thyroid problems a true or accidental one?"

Women, after all, are always and universally having children. There would have to be some times when birth just happens to coincide with the astrology for
thyroid problems for those individuals who have that astrology. Of course, pregnancy can put considerable stress on the mother’s health so it likely aggravates
an existing thyroid condition. But precipitate a new one absent the astrology for it? I doubt it. More is demanded of her thyroid during pregnancy, especially
during the first trimester. But is it a precipitating factor, or just an accidental coincidence of two different conditions?

Then again, look at that moon conjunction saturn opposition C MC (shown in drawing above). Moon rules b 5th house. The set is depressive to the whole 6th
chart of health. We could interpret it that childbirth (5th) has a depressive (saturn) effect on health (6th chart) through thyroid dysfunction (thyroid significators).
If that were the case, then it took a specific set in addition to the simultaneity of her thyroid progressions with childbirth to bring about hypothyroidism.

Unfortunately, I have no additional examples of women with postpartum thyroid conditions.

reasons for her amazingly high approval rating…When reporters asked about the double vision she had from a medication she takes for Graves' disease, a thyroid disorder…

The above information did not provide us with the date that Mrs. Bush’s Graves’ disease occurred.

A search on the Internet yielded the following news release, a Special to the New York Times National Desk on April 12, 1989: Barbara Bush will undergo

Set (13) in its expanded form is shown in the drawing above. It shows Angle/node/mercury/mars/pluto. She has no Angle/neptune, but has an unlighted
neptune/6th (unnumbered set above--c6 neptune in b 6th house).

But Set (13) lacks that all-important 6th influence.

It picks it up through progressing c jupiter, which rules c 6th house. Here are the values:

Table I DATE CONCEPTION AGE PROGRESSED C JUPITER

8-31-1965 40 20 Sagittarius 30
8-31-1975 50 21 Sagittarius 34
8-31-1985 60 22 Sagittarius 54
8-31-1990 65 23 Sagittarius 39

Considering that the Node in Set (13) extends orb, I would judge that pc jupiter is part of the set from around age 40 through age 65. She was 2 months shy of
age 63 when she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Should her disease have gone away after c jupiter progressed out of the set? That would make some
sense. But I doubt it did. I believe she still has the disease. So perhaps in that long period of time she had the 6th influence her thyroid established a “habit” of
over-reacting.

I have certainly already seen some similar with sun/mars/saturn—a set that precipitates a life-threatening disease or condition. I remember one in particular that
was a conjunction that was set off by the harmonic node progressing to it. When the passed on away from the set the condition remained—for many years.

Something similar occurs for her Angle/neptune/6th influence—it forms and goes away after a time:

Table II DATE BIRTH AGE pB MC pB SUN C6 NEPTUNE

4-12-1988 62 22 Libra 10 22 Cancer 43 23 Aries 37
4-22-1989 (diagnosis) 63 23 Libra 08 23 Cancer 40 23 Aries 37

Because of the sun in Table II, we can consider the set a valid Angle/sun/neptune set for both years. C neptune rules C MC and is in b 6th house.

The above progressed sets plus her natal one complete her thyroid significators for date of diagnosis.

Perhaps the fact that her second-part significator actually lacks neptune (and even continuous 6th influence) spells out her Graves' disease as opposed to
hypothyroidism. It is as if when the progression passes the immune is confused and hesitant. It can neither proceed to destroying the thyroid (as happens in
Hashimoto’s), nor tone down to a steady, normal thyroid.

In this study we have three examples of Graves' disease—Mrs. Bush, GHW Bush, and one of the twins.

As for President Bush's Graves' disease (discussed next), its medical description certainly reads like he was already well on the way to thyroid storm (which can
develop with Graves', not just with radioactive treatment of the thyroid in Graves'.) Here is a site which lists the symptoms of thyroid storm: Symptoms of
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 24/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Thyroid Storm..

I suspect that, like Bruce Lee, president Bush's powerful anti-significators (sun and jupiter on Angles) helped suppress what might otherwise have been his
hypothyroidism (resulting from destroyed thyroid). The strong, difficult progression of mars to Angle/mercury/mars/saturn plus his return/Angle/neptune added
to his natal significator was enough to "over-ride" those anti-significators. Which is precisely the similar reason Bruce Lee died from taking an OTC headache
medicine.

Anti-significators are discussed in particular in Lee's astrology, in the pedophile paper, and in the second paper on Alzheimer's disease, which also shows many
charts in which they had their benevolent effect. The latter is dramatic because as those with anti-significators are eliminated from the list, those left are the
individuals who suffered severely from their condition. Here are those links: Paper on Lee, and Paper on Pedophilia, and Paper on Alzheimer's and Several
Other Diseases.

Of the three here with Graves’ disease, GHW Bush has the two powerful anti-significators of sun conjunct an Angle plus jupiter [the greater benefic, shown in
Scorpio in his partial chart below in an unnumbered set] conjunct an Angle. [He also has venus—the lesser benefic—conjunct an Angle, but I do not know if it
functions as an anti-significator.]

The twins fall just short of having at least jupiter on an Angle. Their b jupiter is at 4 Taurus 44 (direct). Both their C Ascendants are over 2° beyond its
opposition, therefore they do not have jupiter on an Angle. Moreover, their jupiter is progressing away from those C Ascendants.

Mrs. Bush also does not have jupiter on an Angle. Her b jupiter turns retrograde without ever progressing to an Angle. Her c jupiter (discussed above) shows up
on her C MC for several years, but ironically also gave her thyroid set its 6th influence.

The point being made now is that in dealing with evaluating any disease more is involved than just the significator of the disease. Anti-significators also have to
be taken into account.

Mrs. Bush and the hyperthyroid twin did not have any anti-significators for their condition.

We want to look at her other progressions for diagnosis. We already saw her progressed Angle/light/neputne/6th above. Progressed c jupiter was at 23
Sagittarius 26, still in Set (13) and giving it 6th house influence.

something that is very reasonable for a man who held a number of prestigious posts. While that does not make it absolute that it is his correct time of birth, it at
least makes it entirely possible.

Here we are not interested in the information about Bush the 41st president of the United States who was in office from 1989 to 1993. Here we are only
interested in the thyroid problem that he had while in office.

The following excerpt is from http://www.doctorzebra.com/prez/g41.htm#x15 (8/5/13) and describes his medical crisis:While jogging at Camp David on a Saturday
afternoon (May 4, 1991), Bush developed shortness of breath, chest tightness, and a general feeling of fatigue. A White House physician discovered Bush had a rapid irregular heartbeat,
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 26/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

ultimately diagnosed as atrial fibrillation due to hyperthyroidism (see below).

Bush was transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital by helicopter…

…Graves disease was diagnosed immediately after the occurrence of atrial fibrillation. Bush had been feeling increasingly tired over the preceding two weeks, had lost nine pounds in two
months, and had seen his handwriting deteriorate. Physical examination disclosed a fine tremor of his hands and slight enlargement of his thyroid gland (goiter). Bush was hyperthyroid.

"President Bush and the team of physicians caring for him agreed that his hyperthyroidism should be treated in the safest, fastest, most definitive, and permanent way possible.
Therefore, he took an oral dose of … Two days later Bush began a ten day course of …to prevent a rare complication of radio-iodine therapy called "thyroid storm" (extreme
hyperthyroidism).

The treatment worked. "Within a few months" Bush's thyroid was no longer over-producing thyroid hormone. In fact, it was now producing too little (a common occurrence after
radiation treatment). Thus, Bush began taking, for the rest of his life, a pill containing synthetic thyroid hormone known as "Synthroid"

Since there are so many sets in the above diagrammed, I have yellow-lined the set numbers to make them more visible. We saw Set (14) above. The other
significance of it is that it includes a conjunction of sun, venus, and NN in Leo to B Asc. All are benefic in effect, with the sun showing projection of authority
in addition to its anti-disease effect. NN gives him good timing and social approval.

Set (15) is his main set for thyroid. It shows C Asc in the same set with b mercury in Taurus, b1 SN in Leo, b1 mars in Leo, b1 saturn in Leo and c mars in Leo.
Note mars and saturn straddle C Descendant. The set reads as Angle/mercury/node/2mars/saturn/4th/6th. The node pulls b mercury into the set. C mars rules C
MC in b 4th house. B1 saturn rules b 6th house. With this set he has Angle/mercury/mars/6th emphasis. He still lacks Angle/neptune/6th.

Set (16) shows lighted (by the node) mars in b 6th house.

Set (17) gives us our necessary neptune influence. It is not on an Angle, but influences one through a ruler. B1 sun is conjunct b neptune in Cancer in c 6th
house yielding a lighted neptune/6th. B1 sun rules B Asc in Leo, so that provides the Angle influence. B1 uranus in Libra, also in the set, shows influence to b
6th house because uranus co-rules (17 of 27°) b 6th house. So both 6th houses are influenced.

He was almost 67 years old when he experienced his Graves’ episode on May 4, 1991. Except for on his return Angle, for the date of his Graves’ episode Bush
does not have neptune on an Angle. But his progressed c sun is at 24 Libra 31 having entered Set (17)—his sun/neptune/6th/Angle set--and increasing its
strength.
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 28/43

Other progressions for May 4, 1991 include:

b1 saturn 6 Leo 28 ruler of b 6th house
pc1 saturn 7 Leo 11 ruler of c 12th house
c mars 8 Leo 49 ruler of C MC in b 4th house

The above set, which is Set (15) with progressions added, shows that on that date Bush was undergoing a new progression of mars to an Angle. All that
Angle/mars/saturn is turbulent and stressful and it came out on his heart and thyroid.

His return for the event occurred on May 3, 1991 and lasted for the next 40 days, for Washington, D.C. [orb for Angles is 2°].

Set (19) return Asc 4 Capricorn 27

pb1 mercury 26 Aries 05
pb neptune 26 Cancer 38

Progressed b sun was at 1 Leo 36 lighting up the mars conjunction SN in Aquarius in b 6th house.

The above progressions and sets amply provide new Angle/mercury/mars/neptune/6th which astrologically describe Bush’s hyperactive thyroid.

William Rehnquist
Picture from ddb.com
Chief Justice William Rehnquist
American jurist and the 16th Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court, a position he held from 1986 until his death on September 3, 2005…

…As Chief Justice, Rehnquist was known for encouraging his colleagues to be efficient in their work, keeping meetings on-time and on-subject, and writing sometimes short but to-the-
point opinions.

In the autumn of 2004, the Supreme Court Chief Justice was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and admitted to Maryland’s Bethesda Naval Hospital on October 22, 2004. He underwent a
tracheotomy the following day. The 80-year-old jurist was released from the hospital on October 29 to recuperate at home…a few days later he disclosed that he was beginning treatment
of radiation and chemotherapy.

…He returned to work on March 21, 2005 and did as much as he could in his weakened state, speaking through his tracheotomy tube and working mostly from his home. On Saturday
evening, September 3, 2005, he died at his Arlington, VA home with his three children at his side. He was a month shy of his 81st birthday.

Below is his Angle/mercury. His significators occur in his 9th chart. That chart, and the 9th house in all charts, is correlated with the subjects religion, law,
foreign travel, and a few other things. Here we see its relevance to law. It was probably his center-of-gravity chart. It certainly was for his death.

Note Rehnquist, like president Bush, also has venus and jupiter on Angles. With Rehnquist, b venus in Cancer is in the same set with C MC in Aries (and in this
chart, b9 venus in Capricorn) and b jupiter in Scorpio is conjunct B Asc. Charts like these give essentially “golden lives” because both benefics—venus and
jupiter—are on Angles--for these two, in all twelve charts. His Angle/jupiter likely helped him reach an older age before getting thyroid cancer than would have
been the case without it.

We have to sum Sets (21) and (22) to get his thyroid significators:

Set (21) is comprised of B MC in the same set with sun/mercury/mars/jupiter/uranu/6th. C9 mars rules C MC in b 6th house and c 4th house. C9 uranus rules
c 8th.

Set (22) contains C MC/venus/neptune/6th in which b venus rules b 6th house.

On the date of his death (9-3-2005 at age 80) progressed b9 saturn was at 12 Gemini 13 conjunct the sun/mercury/mars in Gemini in Set (21) and in the same set
with B MC in Virgo. It had influence to 4th and 8th houses. So he had Angle/sun/mercury/mars/saturn/4th/8th, life-threatening.

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 31/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

Rehnquist had no progressed Angle/neptune, but since it was already active since birth through his C MC, I doubt he needed any more. it also showed up on
return Angles.

His return occurred on August 22, 2005. Its moon was at 11 Pisces 24 fitting also fitting into Set (21).

return MC at 10 Aries 24 was in the same set with b8 neptune at 9 Capricorn 16, b9 NN at 11 Capricorn 25, and return saturn at 9 Cancer 52.
return Asc at 19 Cancer 30 was in the same set with return mars at 18 Aries 22 and pb9 mercury at 19 Aries 16.
return9 moon at 5 Scorpio 23 was in the same set with return9 mercury at 5 Taurus 36, return9 NN at 5 Aquarius 54, and C Asc at 6 Leo 17.

We have to sum three sets in order to come up with his thyroid significator.

The full Set (23) is shown in the drawing above. It shows C MC in the same set with node/mercury/mars/jupiter/6th. B mars rules b 6th house.

The neptune part is trickier. Set (24) shows C Asc in the same set with sun/neptune. B6 neptune rules B MC, so this set influences two Angles and gives us the
Angle/neptune. But it lacks 6th influence.

The 6th influence comes from Set (25). It includes 2moon/2mars/neptune/6th. B6 mars rules b 6th house, while c6 neptune rules c 8th house. This shows the
lighted neptune/6th influence. It also gives him a lighted mars/neptune in c 6th house.

On the date of his death from thyroid cancer, November 1, 1989, Dr. Ditfurth had the following progressions:

Set (26) B Asc 3 Cancer 34

pc NN 3 Libra 49
pb6 mars 4 Libra 06 ruler of b 6th house

pb6 neptune was at 26 Aquarius 00R opposite C Asc at 26 Leo 09. This is a new Angle/neptune because progressing b6 neptune went up the 28 Aquarius
36 (off the Angle) and then turned retrograde. So it was back on the Asc at the time of his death.

pc sun at 27 Aquarius 58, ruler of C Asc, was in the same set with pc saturn at 27 Leo 45, giving him a lighted Angle/saturn influence.

return MC at 10 Leo 58 was with pc mercury at 10 Aquarius 31R.

Linda Ronstadt
American singer of country, folk, ballads and rock. A mixture of Mexican, German, English and Dutch, she grew up on a ranch outside of Tucson… At 18, she left home to become a top
country singer, but her style and capacity kept shifting and growing. Her career spanned everything from blues-rock to Mexican folk, big-band standards to mariachi, musicals to light
opera, tours and records. …With a handicap of intense stage fright, she has no love for touring, but did what she had to do to advance her career.

After…settling in a Malibu home, she adopted a baby daughter in 1991 and a son in 1993, unmarried, plump and more fulfilled as she neared her 50s than in her early years. …She has
suffered with sleep apnea from 1998…

Astrodatabank doesn’t mention her thyroid problem. Here are some other sites which do:

From http://www.mnn.com/lifestyle/arts-culture/photos/9-celebrities-who-havent-aged-well/linda-ronstadt: In recent years, Ronstadt has become hardly recognizable

due to significant weight gain brought on in part by thyroid disease and her shift away from music-making to child-raising, which has kept her largely out of the public eye.

Linda Ronstadt suffers from a chronic, debilitating disease -- and friends believe it triggered her bizarre headline-making meltdown in Las Vegas.

Irate fans stormed out of her July 17 performance at the Aladdin hotel when she lashed out at President Bush during her concert -- but they didn't know she suffers from Hashimoto's
disease, which medical experts say can lead to extreme behavior.

The singer -- whose hits include "You're No Good," "Blue Bayou" and "It's So Easy" --was diagnosed with the chronic thyroid disorder in 1997.

Symptoms can range from mild to severe -- from chronic fatigue and lack of concentration to clinical depression, confusion, hallucinations and even psychotic episodes.

What's more, patients treated with thyroid hormone must get precise dosages and be carefully monitored or they can suffer bouts of fear, hostility and agitation...

Set (28) contains her whole significator in this chart. It shows sun/moon/mercury/mars/jupiter/neptune/4th/6th/8th/Angle. B jupiter rules B Asc in c 4th
house. C mercury rules both C MC and C Asc and also acts like a light. C mars rules c 8th house. C12 neptune co-rules (15 of 27°) c 6th house.

Since we only know the year of her diagnosis (1997) we cannot do the important progressions and return. Progressions for mid-year do show that pc neptune, at
14 Virgo 07, in early conjunction to her C Asc at 14 Virgo 45, especially since C MC acts like a small-orb light to help it out.

Set (28), even though not on an Angle, is very powerful. Mercury as light when mercury rules an Angle—here it rules two--is a special circumstances and
proves a powerful light. And there are two more lights in the set plus it influences three Angles. So this set is very strong, its only “weakness” being that none of
it is actually on an Angle.

He was 48 years old at the time—early for thyroid cancer. So his thyroid chart should have a strong significator.

Discussion
The significator for thyroid disease as outlined at the beginning of the paper was amply demonstrated among the examples of thyroid disorder.

There are still many questions that remain unanswered, but answering them was not the aim of this paper.

Below is the table mentioned earlier which delineates the strength of the original significator depending on whether it influenced an Angle and 6th house, or had
to be put together from several sets. It does not distinguish if more than one Angle is influenced nor more than one 6th house. The more tentative 4th and 8th
influences are also not mentioned. Here we are just noting the Angle and 6th influences.

Unlike the order of the examples above, Table III is arranged roughly in the order of strongest significator to weakest. As can be seen, it wasn’t that easy to do.

Table III NAME COMPOSITION OF THYROID SIGNIFICATOR DIAGNOSIS

Boehner Angle/mercury/mars/neptune/6th Thyroid Cancer

B. Bush Angle/mercury/mars/progressed 6th plusneptune/6th plus progressed Angle/neptune/6th Hyperthyroid

The twins must have picked up a neptune/6th influence for their Angle/neptune at some point in order for the immune reaction to take place either for Graves’
disease or Hashimoto’s. But we don’t know when and I did not look for possible times.

Cancer of the pancreas occurs in different cells of the pancreas than does diabetes (exocrine as opposed to endocrine). And from results found in the paper about
the pancreas, it looks like the astrology of pancreatic cancer tends to form not that long before it is diagnosed (as opposed to type I diabetes, which is strong
from birth.)

That does not appear to be the case with cancer of the thyroid. Maybe that is why it is easier to diagnose than cancer of the pancreas.

There is one way medically in which pancreatic and thyroid cancer are similar: they tend to occur later in life, past age 50. (Travaglini’s occurring at age 47 was
atypical.) It raises the question, is there something about these thyroid dysfunctions—which occur through the immune system--that precludes later development
www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 38/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

of cancer, which also occurs through some form of immune dysfunction?

What we see in both papers is that the immune and major part of the astrology that generates diabetes, cancer of the pancreas, hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, and
thyroid cancer is the same--Angle/mars/neptune/6th. Everywhere in this astrology that spells out immune problems. The minor part which differentiates them is
the planet which symbolizes the organ involved.

Just like what occurs with sexual preferences (whose major significator is just lesser to greater degrees of human sexuality no matter what the preference), the
organ (or preference) “identifier” just amounts to a little tag that says “here” and “here” and therefore, “not there.”

Footnotes
Footnote 1 Research by Michel Gauquelin, a French statistician and astrologer, now deceased, established statistically that there is a difference in strength
between planets approaching conjunction an Angle (several degrees before it) and those leaving it (a few degrees after it.) What he found was that planets before
the Angle (to its right with the Midheaven) expressed much more strongly. Their expression drops off rapidly shortly after passing the conjunction to the Angle.
I have never actually read his work though understand traditional Western astrology endorses its validity. Gauquelin was working only with the birth chart and
also not using harmonics.

Four of the ten individuals--both twins, Boehrer, and GHW Bush--discussed above already had mercury in Taurus on an Angle as their Angle/mercury.

Mrs. G and Barbara Bush each had birth mercury in Taurus. It was not on an Angle and did not rule one.

Travaglini does not have mercury in Taurus in any chart, not even a harmonic one.

Three of the individuals, however—Rehnquist, Ditfurth, and Ronstadt—had mercury in Taurus in different charts than the one chosen as representative of their
thyroid problem. Two of those—Rehnquist and Ditfurth, had those mercuries in Taurus on Angles, in charts their 12th and 3rd charts, respectively. Ronstadt’s
mercury in Taurus, in her 7th chart, was not on an Angle, but was in the same set with c7 mercury (ruler of both C Angles, a light, and very powerful). Since she
also did not have mercury on an Angle in the chart chosen to represent her thyroid problem, I found the former set acceptable and one of the rare exceptions for

www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html 40/43
9/7/2019 www.angelfire.com/sd/binah/thyroid.html

the requirement of Angle/mercury. Her b7 mercury was at 16 Taurus 21 with c7 mercury at 18 Scorpio 16. They were in the same set with mars and neptune,
and had influence to an Angle and 6th house, a not dissimilar set from the one in her significator chart.

In fact, for all three of these last individuals—Rehnquist, Ditfurth, and Ronstadt—those charts, both by significator and progressions, could just as well have
been chosen as the chart containing the significator. That is, each of the three had two charts adequately containing the significator for thyroid problems, and
two of them showed mercury in Taurus on an Angle. (There can be more than one significator chart in any condition. For instance, death from aviation disaster
often shows in both the 7th and 9th charts.)

I thought this interesting. For a while I was wondering if there was going to be a third part to the thyroid significator.

I cannot rule out the value of mercury in Taurus as a possible indicator because altogether six of the ten individuals with mercury in Taurus on an Angle had that
occur in charts which also contained the thyroid significator. That seems pretty impressive since both mercury and Taurus are correlated with the thyroid.

But three of the individuals—Mrs. G, Barbara Bush, and Travaglini—according to the principles of this method showed no connection between their mercury in
Taurus and the kind of emphasis necessary for thyroid problems. This method has four mercuries per chart. Times twelve charts, that is 48 mercuries. I am not a
statistician, but with only 12 choices by sign, it seems likely there will be some mercuries in Taurus, and many many individuals without thyroid problems will
have them.

So I would not count mercury in Taurus as a tertiary part of the significator because it failed to be effective for three of the ten individuals. I am, of course, only
talking about the Angle/mercury part of the significator, not the all-important and absolutely necessary mars/neptune, immune part of the significator.

Nonetheless, I find the fact that it occurred on Angles in six valid significator charts intriguing. I can't use it, but I don’t find it easy to throw out, either.

G.H.W. Bush (A)

Birth:6/12/1924, 11:45 a.m. EDT, Milton, MA. From Astrodatabank by Lois Rodden and Mark McDonough. Robert Cole quotes news clipping in Mercury
Hour, 4/1989, "Prescott Bush's first son was born at a quarter of noon." Carol Griffin quotes him for 11:38 AM in 1980 at lecture. Zip Dobyns quotes a friend of
the family for 11:05 AM. Steinbrecher quotes his personal secretary, G. Hayward, letter on White House stationery, "born at home at 12:00 Noon". I am going
by the freshest one—the new clipping in Mercury Hour though we do not know which news clipping it was. Newspapers have little vested interest in altering
the truth about time of birth, and because it is so close in time to the actual event, little time to think about doing anything else.

In June 2008, Wayne Turner wrote the following to Pat Taglilatelo that Bush was born between 10 and 11 AM giving as the source the following: "I received the
following email in May 2008:Thank you for contacting the George Bush Presidential Library. The information we have on the time of the former president's
birth comes from the Bush Family Scrapbook, 4/1974-10/1974; Dorothy W. Bush Collection, Reminiscences of Dorothy Walker Bush, which relays that George
H. W. Bush was born at home at 173 Adams Street in Milton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, on June 12, 1924 between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Dr. Thomas
R. Goethals of 443 Beacon Street, Boston, Massachusetts attended to Mrs. Bush along with an unidentified midwife during the delivery. Sincerely, John Blair
Archives Technician, George Bush Presidential Library, National Archives and Records Administration.

Atr on 18 March 2013: Wayne Turner's quote seems the best source [I disagree], which results in a birth time of 10.30 am, with 30 minutes uncertainty. The
newspaper report by Cole is not verified.
