Answering machine

1. Stating the location/number/speaker’s


name
2. Explaining that no one is available to
answer the call: I’m not at home at home at
the moment. There’s no one to take your
call (right now)
3. Requesting information from the caller:
Please leave your name and
number/message after the beep.
4. Saying what the receiver of the call will
do: I’ll call you back.
When responding, callers often structure their
message as follows:

Greeting/ Name (possibly spelt)/ Reason for


calling/ Request to call back or contact/
Information on how to contact (phone
number/address/good time to call, etc)/
Goodbye
Writing Homework:
Write about an advertisement that you enjoyed

You should say:

what product was being advertised


when and where you first saw it
what you liked about it
whether you will buy the product being advertised
