Children of the World

This simple game was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest and developed to drawn attention to
the many different cultures around the world, and help students build an appreciation for the
differences between themselves and those with differing traditions. This game would be played
after exploring various cultures and places around the world in previous lessons. The students
would have gained prior knowledge of the traditions and clothing of the highlighted cultures,
and would already be familiar with the different types of traditional clothing.

Required materials:
Set of matching cards depicting ‘Children of the World’ in their traditional clothing.

Objective:
Collect the most pairs of cards and win!

Rules:
 Students engage in a round of rock paper scissors to see who goes first.
 Cards are spread out face down on the table or working area.
 The first person flips over 2 cards. If they are a pair, they keep them and get to play
again. If not, they flip them over and it’s the next player’s turn.
 The next person flips over 2 cards. If they are a pair, they keep them and get to play
again. If not, they turn the cards over and it’s the next player’s turn.
 The game continues until all cards have been matched!

This game could also be modified to depict traditional food items, objects and flags from
different parts of the world!
