INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW
A. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Intellectual Property (IP) Law – This course
primarily deals with the study of the state policies, laws, treaties and international
agreements, rules and regulations on intellectual property rights (IPR), namely
Copyright and Related Rights; Trademarks and Service Marks; Patents; Industrial
Designs; Layout Designs (Topographies) of Integrated Circuits; Geographic
Indications; and Protection of Undisclosed Information. It will tackle basic
principles, rules and procedures for the protection of IPR, and the necessary
remedies in case of violations thereof.
B. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the students shall be able:
1. to fully understand the concept of intellectual property system;
2. to fully grasp the importance and value of intellectual property;
3. to know and comprehend the different forms of IPR as to their concept,
definition, mode of acquisition, scope, limitations and exceptions, term of
protection, enforceability, procedures and remedies available for the
protection and enforcement of IPR;
4. to know the danger and serious concerns of counterfeiting and piracy; and
5. to advocate IP and build respect for IPR.
