CHAPTER I
I. INTRODUCTION
Work life balance, the struggle just to keep a healthy life for students that has financial
problems, decided to possible to work full time while studying full time. Parents work hard just
to give the best for their children. But maybe sometimes isn't enough to support the finances of
them. That's why others decided to work even though they are not at their legal age just to
support their finances at school.
But of course the government offers programs that give solutions for the students.
Working students are the one who do everything just to find way to make things work. The jobs
that they specially working on are crew at fast food chains, saleslady or salesman, cell phone
accessories shop and many more. Lots of ways just to improve every individual life.
But, the academic performance of the students has gained significant to the attention in
past research. Performance of students is affected by psychological, economic, social, personal,
and environmental factors. Though this factors strongly influence the performance of the
students, but these factors differ from country to country and person to person. Most of the
previous studies on academic performance of students focused on such issues like teacher,
education, class, environment, gender, difference, teaching style, family educational background
and socioeconomic factor. Past studies concentrates, on various factors such class plans, class

size, reading material, environment of the class, the innovation utilized as a part of the class and
exams framework, extracurricular exercises, family and work exercises. Doing it possibly to
keep studying and balance their work.
II. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Being Working Student is very hard because they need to give their 100% best of attention
when they're in school and put their full strength at work. It is much as different especially on
their schedule. Their duties as a worker must fulfil and also their performance in school.
A Working Student must responsible enough to handle their life being a student and a
worker. They are the one who are experienced enough when it comes in managing times at work
and school and know how important the commitment is.
Researchers have demonstrated that the performance of the students depended upon several
factors like, learning facilities, age and gender differences. The most significant with the positive
outcome on the performance of the students is competence of the students in English. Direction
is a component through which a student knows how to progress his study approach and study
schedule and is directly corresponding to academic accomplishments. The students who are
appropriately guided by their guardians have done well in the exams. The direction from the
educator also influences performance of the students. The academic performance of the students
also rely on a various socioeconomic variables like students participation in the class, family pay,
and teacher student ratio, presence of qualified teachers in school and gender of the student.
Several studies have also been done on the impact of peer influence on student performance.

III. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The abbreviation is to gather information that regards to the effects of the students who are
working while studying. Specifically, the study aims to answer the following questions:
1. What the working student must do so that his/her academic performance will not affect?
2. What is the main purpose of the student why he/she is working?
3. How can a working student balance his/her study and perfomance at work?
IV. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This terms that were concisely defined in the study that could help the reader to
understand and comprehend it more. This specific words are:
Working Student- this is a kind of students who's working while studying to support their
finances at school.
Parent- the student's father or mother, that brings forth offspring, their role is to take care to
their children.
Teacher- one that teaches and especially one whose occupation is to instruct and to guide the
students.

Job- a regular remunerative position or got a part time that is the source of money.
School- it is a place where students inquired to gain knowledge.
V. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
This conceptual framework discusses the study where in the Input is consisting of:
position, performance and comprehension. On the other side the process used through survey and
questionnaires that result to the topic effects of a working student

VI. HYPOTHESIS
It was hypothesized that learning facilities, communication skills and proper guidance
from parents have no significant impact on student academic performance at school. It’s because
student specially senior high school student already has their own decision when it comes in
studying. And plus the student who decided to work even if they are not their legal age.

VII. SCOPE
The purpose of these study seeks to determine the different effects of working while
studying. It will conduct the perception of the students, teachers and specially the working
student of AMACC in school year 2018-2019. Even they are having hard times, still they keep
pursuing their dreams to have a better life in the future.
VIII. DELIMITATION
This study aims to give the readers more information regarding to the positive and negative
effects of a working student. And it will be discuss the state of the working student that will be
explain that is not easy at all. It will also talks about the result that might happen when a
working student has lack of effort on a particular part. And the researchers will illustrate also
what are the things that the people around the working student might help to the situation of
it.
IX. DEFINITION OF TERMS
This terms that could help a lot the readers to understand more the study. And gain more
ideas about the study. This unfamiliar terms are:

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
The researchers cited books and articles which are relevant to the topic effects of a
working student. It is composed and provides explanations and logical connections between the
previous research and the present research work. That gives more evidences that makes the
research more informational for the readers.
FOREIGN LITERATURE
This literature involves the research based information on educational approaches
and programs associated with improving the academic performance of Native American
students. As stressed by Gilani (2012) in the works of Garcia and Pearason, reading strategies are
deliberate actions that learns select to establish and improve their reading comprehension. He
stressed that these strategies are mental processes involved in the reading. Usually these
techniques are selected consciously to facilitate reading comprehension.
In addition, Horowitz (2012), the reader must also be intentional and thoughtful
while reading, monitoring the words and their meaning as reading progresses. And the reader
must apply comprehension strategies as ways to be sure that what is being read matches their

expectations and builds on their growing body of knowledge that is being stored for immediate
or future reference.
FOREIGN STUDY
A related study conducted by Marsh and Kleitman (2005) showed that working during high
school had negative effects on occupational and, in particular, educational aspirations and
subsequent employment. This negative impact is not present among continuing students who
worked during high school to save money for college and in fact had mostly favorable effects.
Findings from the study offered additional clues about the nature of the impact of working on
subsequent unemployment. For example, the positive effect of working on subsequent
unemployment was not mediated by other high school outcomes. Hence, high school
accomplishments were unrelated to this effect. But since the study considered only students who
graduated from high school, our results did not include the negative effects of part-time
employment on high school graduation and implications for long-term employment among high
school dropouts.
LOCAL LITERATURE
De Guzman, De Castro (2011) graduates need to develop personal skills, qualities and
experiences that enable to them to complete in the labor market. De Cruz (2014) many highly
educated Filipino today, married or unmarried, gave indicate their desire to be part of national
effort to build the nation and to contribute to the national welfare. Some have shown their need

and capability to make good or even excel in some field of endeavor, as well as fulfil their
responsibilities.
According to Masikip (2012) that the second year high school students obtained good
performance in the post less before and after exposure to remediation activities. Alcovendas and
Espares (2013) discusses that AB English honor graduates are gainfully employed having
sufficient annual income, have a tendency of staying long in the company. The statement of
Alcovendas and Espares are relevant because in the present study conducted by the researchers.
The results shows that academic performances in school really affect the employment status of
the graduates.
The ACT Foundation (2014) defines working learners as individuals who are both
working for pay and informal learning programs that lead to a recognized credential. Part time
workers in this study were able to deal with the effects of working while in school (Triventi,
2014). Some students take fewer credits due to work commitments. Part time and full time
students tend to spend less time studying (Darolia, 2014).Specifically 28% of high school
students, 72 % of undergraduate and 82% of graduate students work at least part time while
going to school (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). The negative study points out the negative effects of
working to be lack of time for school-based activities and leisure activities, which can help with
overall health (Darolia, 2014)
Money is the main key in study which students acquire tremendous amount of
debt pay off. Many students work while attending school which in return has an effect. From
working and attending school, stress become the main setback in which affects their academic

performance. A recent article has shown that there is a psychological and physical to that takes
upon students who try to juggle both. It showed that stress was a main cause for these students
which caused emotional and physical exhaustion. Our survey tries to study how students deal
with stress when they work or not work while attending school. Stress plays the main role in all
factors for these students attending a university ("Optimism and Risk for Job Burnout", 2015).
LOCAL STUDY
According to Desousa (2008), Web based application have four core benefits. These are
the following: 1) Compatibility. Web based application are far more compatible across platforms
than traditional installed software like web browsers. 2)Efficiency. Everyone hates to deal with
piles of paper unless they do not have any other alternatives. The benifit of web based solution
makes service and information available from any web-facilitated personal Computer (PC).
3)Security of live data. Normally in more complex system data is moved about separate systems
and data sources. In web -based systems, these systems, these systems and processes can often be
merge by reducing the need to move the data around. Web based application also provide an
additional security by removing the need for the user to have access to the data and back end
servers.4) Cost Effective. Web based application can considerably lower the costs because of
reduced support and maintenance, lower requirements on the end user system and simplified
plans. According to Evangelista (2008) the university’s Student information System (SIS) of

Nueva Vizcaya State University is a secure, web accessible interactive computer system that
allows user access to grade reports, transcripts, schedule of classes, and remaining balance for
the semester and register for classes online. Through the system, students would be assigned a
unique identification number. All data to and from the university would use that unique
identifier. The use of individual student records would: 1) Increase the admissions capacity to
follow a student’s progress over time; 2) provide better quality data to drive more enlightened
policy decisions resulting in enhanced educational opportunities for all students; 3)reduce data
collection burden through a web enabled SIS; and 4) as a tool of parents in monitoring the
academic performance of their children.

Research Methodology
In this chapter it will discuss the Research designs, method, instrument, analysation of the
questionnaire, and how does the interview conducted.
Research Design
The Researcher used interview to collect information about the topic effects of a working
student. The interview research design is the process of collecting information by means of the
interviewer or researcher will ask certain that will be answered by the interviewee or
respondents.
Research Instrument
The instrument that the researchers used is questionnaire. It is where the researcher wrote
series of questions in a paper that the respondents will answer. The questionnaire was composed
of 5 questions to be answer by 15 working students.

Respondents
The respondents in this study are 15 students of AMACC that are working students. The
interview conducted in all strands in AMACC (ABM, STEM, TVL, HUMMS). Purpose is to
gather the perception of the students about the topic effects of a working students.
Data Gathering
The process of gathering the opinions, thoughts and perception of the working students
is by preparing a questionnaire and conduct an interview.

CHAPTER IV
This chapter is the discussion of the answers of the 15 respondents in AMACC. And the
analyzation of the researchers about the answer of the respondents.
Question 1. How does working while studying affects the academic performance of the
students? Based on the answers that the researchers gathered from the respondents they said that
because of the job that they applied their grades get lower and they sight instances like they’re
always late at class, they misses some activities, they didn't pass some requirements at school
and many more. That results to lower grades. As what the researchers analyze or observed all of
them said the negative effects of working while studying that it affects that must their
performance in school.
Question 2. What are the reason why a student needs to work while studying? Based on the
information that the researchers gathered from the respondents, they said that because of
financial problem that push them to work to have an extra income and to help their family for
some small finances. All of them said that financial problem is the main purpose if their job.
Their goal is to support their family in finances at school.
Question 3. What are the things that a working student must do to maintain his/her performance
at school and at work? Some of the respondents said that they must focus on what are the things
that must be done in school and at work, others said time management is the key to balance out
their performance both on that. As what the researchers observed the students must have time
AMA COMPUTER COLLEGE | 15
STRIVE IN DARKNESS LET SUCCESS WILL BE THE LIGHT
management on his/herself because they must balance those essential things. And also put more
effort on the requirements on the things that must be submit on class.
Question 4. What are the specific jobs that a working student usually applying? Most of the
answers of the respondents are crews on fast food chains like Mcdo, Jollibee, Mang Inasal and
many more. And also sales lady in different shops like on phones accessories. For the source of
income for their family. Most on the jobs that they are applying are common to us. Maybe those
jobs didn't need more the knowledge, and the learnings of the student because most of those jobs
needed the skills and endurance of the student worker. Patience, perseverance and hard work
must be the main asset of the working student.
Question 5. What are the things that the working student must focus more? As what the
respondents said, they must still focus more on the requirements at school and work. And still
focus more on their studies because work is just temporary and the main reason why they’re
working is that to support their studies. And they said even though they already earn money they
must still put on their mind that study must be focus first. As what the researchers observed the
student must still focused on their studies because as they grow older that will be their main asset
to succeed in their life. Because the money that they are earning right now will be tripled
someday after they finished they study. And in that thing they will be successful and all of their
sacrifices right now will paid off in the near future.

Introduction
Summarizes the conclusions and recommendations emanating from this study. It begins
by looking at a summary of the initial aims and objectives, its rationale, and a synopsis of the
literature findings. It then includes a brief discussion presented according to each of the main
research questions followed by the outcomes of this study. The lessons learned, the strengths, the
weaknesses and the special contributions of this study are covered in this section. It concludes
with a list of recommendations.
Summary
In chapter 1 the researcher explained the introduction where in it's all about the effects of
working while studying to students. It discussed the disadvantages as a student worker. It also
involved the things that must the working student focus more so that he/she can maintain his/her
performances on both side. And this focuses on the main conflict of the study and it will be
answer on the part of chapter 4. In chapter 2 discussed the review of related literature. That
strengthen the study because of the past researchers. It also talks about the previous study on it
that helps the study to add more knowledge. In chapter 3 discussed the Research methods,
instrument, design and how the interview was conducted in AMACC. And this involves the
respondents and how does researchers gathered information. In chapter 4 the researchers
summarizes all the answers of the respondents. And also they analyze each answer in a certain

Findings
Almost of the working student didn't have that high grades, because of their situation in life. It
is seems that as a working student they must focus more on the important things and always have
time management in everything. It is important t them to maintain their performance in both
sides because it was already their responsibilities that must be done.
AMA COMPUTER COLLEGE | 19
STRIVE IN DARKNESS LET SUCCESS WILL BE THE LIGHT
Conclusions
It showed that the working student has a lot of disadvantages than to normal students. That's
why it's normal to them to have not that high grades but still it is up to the working student if
he/she will strive more so that he/she could maintain his/her grades. The researchers called them
as amazing students because of their ability to handle those responsibilities at their young age.
Recommendations
This may recommend other location to gather information to different schools that may help a
lot to give more evidences and proofs about the topic.

than a mere recapitulation of earlier themes, they take them up and develop them still more. As
such, they seem designed to provide listeners with some of the most stimulating material in the
composition. So your final chapter is, indeed, necessary. But it should function to stimulate your
readers by demonstrating how your research has stimulated you.
