Justice For Individual Good and Common Good

This document discusses the relationship between individual good and common good in the context of social justice. It argues that there is currently an imbalance that favors the common good over the individual good. While respecting laws is important for social order, laws should not abuse individual dignity and rights. True justice requires recognizing the inherent worth of each individual first before considering what benefits society. A balanced approach is needed that considers both individual circumstances and the common good. Social justice must respect both the individual and society.

Justice for individual good and common good

This is one of the problem of people nowadays, they are confused if justice should only
proper for the common good or for the individual good. First of all, I observed in today’s
generation there is a confusion of ethics and values prominently in the question of social justice.
It is obvious individuals are still depending and relying on the authority of tradition. On what has
bees passed on from generation to generation. If I will analyze the definition of each individuals
concerning what justice is. Majority of them defined justice as an equated with legal justice, with
what the law of society demands. It is very noticeable on those definitions that justice for them is
applicable only for the common good. From past until now people are just relying what the
government leaders wants to them to follow. For instance, there is already a country that death
penalty is allowed on their society. The reason for this law is for the common good, in order to
minimize those people who are planning to commit a murder. An individual committed a murder,
he is condemned to have death penalty. On this situation I come up with a question, is there a
justice on obeying the law of society even though that it against the dignity of a person to live?
Perhaps, if we look at the law it has a justice because it just only for obeying and respecting the
law. If I will justify on that dilemma speaking of the value of an individual there is no justice at
all. There are biases between the law and the human. The aim of the law is for the common good
there is a justice if we respect it, but in abusing the lives of many peoples there is no justice at
all.

It is very understandable that human in our generation today, they don’t have deeper
understanding on defining justice. In order to reconcile it, human being as a person we have
value or inner worth to respect. It is because each human being has a dignity to respect. First of
all, justice must be recognized first within the individuals. Human has a responsibility to give
justice to the individual. In order to justify the situation if is good for the human as person or not
we should look an individual with his or her totality. In our society it is clear that there is
imbalance between the common good and individual good. Some dilemmas people doing their
responsibility for the common good in a good way. There is also issue on applying justice for the
individual good. Yes, it is right that we should look a person within his whole humanity. It is
right to respect them because they are human also. But the question is how if a person
committing always a crime and already acting against the law, are we still give him a justice? For
the common good it is not right to let him doing crime always, to obey the law of the society he
is condemned to put in prison to pay what he did but not taking the life of person. On the side of
individual good, to give him justice it is right to put him in a prison but not proposing a death
penalty. Even though that he is criminal, he has right to change and reflect that his action that he
did is against the law. Therefore, social justice must be recognized first to the individual and after
we can reason out that it is also proper to give justice for the common good. To say it simple,
social justice must be balanced for the individual good and for the common good.
