evaluation of the drill)
February 21, 2019, the Manga High School Extension participated the 1st
Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquakes (NSED) Drill. Before the
day of the said activity, Ms. Helen Jane L. Velez And Ms. Claire Ann M.
Pedroso, oriented all the teachers, students and non-teaching personnel
about important things that they must do during a disaster or earthquake
happens.
Exactly 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the first 30–second alarm started. The
children started to seek shelter and protect themselves wherever they were
situated. They also performed duck, cover and hold under desks, tables or
chairs and remained in such position until the shocking stop. Then, on
the 20 -second calm period, the teachers led the children and started to
evacuate from the room/ building to the designated evacuation areas. In
their evacuations areas, the teachers started to count their students to make
sure that the students were all safe and accounted. One student portrayed a
role as a victim or injured student that was trapped inside the room. Luckily,
the rescuer and the medical team actively responded and cured the injured
student.
Lastly, after all the inspection of the areas, the team leader gave the “All
Clear” signal. Signifies the termination of the earthquake drill. The drill was
successfully implemented, everybody participated the activity. Even one
student portrayed as an injured person, we responsibly and actively rescued
the student and ended an activity that has many lessons and guides on how
to prepare ourselves during an earthquake.
ISSUES AND
CONCERNS 1. Some of the students were making fun of the said activity.
