3.2 TEMPERATURE CONTROL PRINCIPLE

3.2.1 TEMPERATURE CONTROL PRINCIPLE UNDER INCUBATOR MODE
As the figure 3.1 shows, control the temperature, humidity and oxygen concentration of
inside box are achieved by the forced air circulation system.
When the oxygen control function is locked, after the outside air is filtered, the outside air
inhaled into the heated air circulation passage, heated by heater and flow through the
humidification device, then enter into the hood through the air outlet from two sides of bed shelf,
it can replenish the fresh air of incubator. Fan motor will form the hot air circulation system by
mixing and heating between air in hood and fresh air.
3-2
I12-1
OPERATOR'S MANUAL FOR INFANT INCUBATOR

When turning on the oxygen control function, oxygen flow through the oxygen input
connector, then pass the electromagnetism valve, and inhaled into the heated air circulation
passage to replenish the oxygen.

FIGURE 3.1

3.2.2 TEMPERATURE CONTROL PRINCIPLE UNDER WARMER MODE

As the figure 3.2 shows the heat from the heater will radiate the surface of mattress
through the reflective cover in shape of parabola with high reflectivity. Then the heat could
reach to the patient.
Under the Manual Mode, the radiant heater outputs in the way of fixed proportion to make
the body temperature of patient resume; under the Baby Mode, the device will automatic adjust
the heat output proportion by comparing the skin temperature and the set temperature to keep
the heat balance.

NOTE: During the process of getting the radiation and heat, the heat loss in convection,
evaporation, radiation, conduction will affect the heat balance. Therefore, to
make the patient decrease the dissipation, it is necessary to use the device in the
environment of no rapid air flowing ,and cover waterproof velum (polyethylene
velum) the naked skin or to use the waterproof net to increase the humidity
around the skin to decrease the water evaporation.

B. Use the Baby Mode

Baby Mode is a temperature control method which means the controller will control the skin

temperature automatically to keep the baby temperature close to set temperature.

Refer to the step E in section 4.4.2, Connect the Skin sensor to the socket on the sensor

box correctly. On first indication interface, press skin self-definite function key to select Baby

Mode. About temperature setting, please refer to the figure 4.7 and skin temperature setting part.

Once stabilized, the sensor probe temperature will be automatically controlled within ±0.2℃and it

means that the incubator is working under Baby Mode

IMPORTANT: The Infant incubator controls the temperature by sensor. Therefore, the
sensor must be connected to sensor socket when the controller controls the
temperature by skin temperature.
In Baby Mode, Skin Temperature, Air Temperature and Set Temperature are displayed on

display screen at the same. If the skin temperature sensor is connected with sensor socket, the

temperature from the Skin Temperature Sensor Probe will also be displayed there.

The skin temperature sensor should be closed to baby skin surface under the skin mode.

The incubator internal controller compare temperature value (which is detected from skin

temperature sensor) with the set skin temperature, and control the heat proportion of heater

according to comparative result, eventually make the skin temperature sensor detects the

temperature stability near the set value.

If need to change the set temperature (lower or higher) during the equipment operation

process, press the keyboard locking key at first, after unluck the kepad, choice the skin mode and

turn the rotary knob to adjust the setting temperature. If set the override mode, first set the skin

In order to setting the appropriate temperature and correctly control the infant's skin

temperature, the incubator has following protection functions: When the temperature detected by

the skin temperature sensor is always below the set temperature for more than 2℃, the incubator

4-25
I12-1
OPERATOR'S MANUAL FOR INFANT INCUBATOR

will rise the air temperature in the incubator in the speed of 1℃ per hour to make the infant's

temperature slowly rise, and avoid the damage during rapid rising of the temperature. If the skin

temperature is always below the set temperature for more than 2℃ in 1 hour, the system will

occur " Skin Sensor Position Error ". At that time, the incubator still rise the air temperature in

the hood slowly until the air temperature reaches the steady temperature condition which

temperature is equal to “ skin temperature set value -4℃”. For example, the set temperature is

36.5℃ under the skin mode, the temperature in incubator will finally stable at 32.5℃.

In order to make the temperature unnecessary lower because of infant fever, the incubator

has following protection functions: If the baby skin temperature surpasses the set temperature for

less than 0.5℃, the air temperature in the incubator will not lower 5℃ than the baby skin

temperature. If the baby skin temperature surpasses the set temperature for over than 0.5℃, the

air temperature in the incubator will not below 25℃. For example, if the set temperature is 36℃

while the baby temperature rising to 36.3℃, the air temperature in incubator will not lower than

31.3℃. While the baby temperature rising to 36.7℃ which is higher 0.5℃ than the set

temperature, the air temperature in the incubator will not lower than 25℃.

WARNING
1. Make sure that the probe of skin sensor is attached closely with the skin of patient. If
the probe falls off, the measured temperature from sensor is not the real skin
temperature, maybe the air temperature or the mattress surface temperature, and it may
cause the patient receive more heat or lose heat, even scald or death.
2. Please do not cover the blanket or diaper on the probe of skin sensor that may affect
the accuracy of temperature.
3. The equipment can‘t differentiate the different between skin temperature is low but
body temperature is high (fever) and both skin temperature and body temperature are
all low. Skin temperature sensor only measure the skin temperature of patient, not the
real body temperature, Therefore, measure the body temperature regularly, and check
whether the patient has a fever or not, whether the temperature of patient decreases.

therefore, consider the safety of patient, suggest the operator use the Baby Mode.
NOTE: Patient under the state of shock or fever, please don’t use this mode.
Please do not use the Baby Mode when the patient is under the state of shock, because the
baby temperature is much lower than the normal temperature during shock, or else, the patient
will be over-heat.
Please do not use the Baby Mode when the patient has a fever, because the baby
temperature is much higher than the normal temperature during fever, if use the self-regulation
function to control, it will cause the body temperature of the patient decrease.
For the patient’s temperature, usually, the operators think it means the rectum temperature,
which is measured by putting the thermometer into the rectum of patient. To measure the core
temperature of patient accurately, the operator needs to insert the thermometer in to the rectum
at depth of 5cm, so it will be dangerous (the struggle of patient will cause the crack of
thermometer), if the insert depth is not enough or time is not long, the operator can’t get the real
body temperature of patient, therefore, it is improper to control the output of heater via rectum
temperature.
The connection method of skin temperature sensor probe and patient skin surface are same
as the section "use Baby Mode" under the incubator mode.

7.4 USING HUMIDITY CONTROL SYSTEM

WARNING: In any temperature, the relatively high humidity in the incubator will
decrease the heat vapor from the patient and result in increasing the
patient’s temperature. This is especially clear in the neonate. Therefore,
temperature control mode, temperature value and humidity value should
certified by the chief doctor. Monitor the patient’s recta and armpit
temperature according to the doctor’s instruction.

7.4.1 Preparation
Pull the water tank out as following figure shows, adding proper distilled water into the
humidifying chamber. Cannot over the high water level. Set the incubator in the Air mode. It can
