Reflection Essay

Writing Development:
As an international student, I also attended many different levels of writing before I
took this ENGL 2116, but this course made me realize that writing is not just about
connecting the sentences I want to express. The first and most basic improvement I
got is knowledge about English this language, through the constant writing, I feel
that I have a better understanding of the gradual deepening of grammar and
paragraph content. In addition, this course taught me that writing is not just a
format of essay. After entering the company, there are still a variety of formats to be
used. I know different kinds of books through the homework of this class. Articles
need to be written in different tones and different design styles.
First, we know how to collect user opinions by inviting testers and conducting
surveys through Memo packet, and finally integrating them into a memo about the
changes that the website needs. From here on, it is very different from the writing in
my previous mind. The previous writing is to clarify the theme and then find the
information and write your own opinion. But this time we need to collect the
opinions of others and write a report based on what we learned in class. This gave
me a completely different writing experience than before. Through this time, I also
learned how to discuss with the team members and come up with articles that
everyone thinks are the best.
Second assignment is white paper, which is not much different from essay in the
body of the article, just need to discuss the problem and propose a solution. But
white paper requires us to design the overall article style, including but not limited
to heading, cover, color and font, which also brings me challenges. But after reading
the peer review and the professor's comment, I feel that I have a preliminary
understanding of how to choose a design that fits the theme.
The next assignment is the correspondence packet, which is more about letting me
know how to choose a photo that matches my theme to make my article more
convincing and easier for the reader to understand. This is also a technique that I
have never touched before this assignment. Through this assignment, I am also able
to understand why and how to combine the article ontology and the image to make
the reader more sense of substitution.
The final assignment may be the most common format at work, namely email and
letter. Although it is still very common in daily life as a student email, but the email
written in the class is different from the email that the student usually writes to the
teacher or the school. We need to write to other people as the company employee.
This means that our email and letter need to be more formal and carefully designed.
This assignment gives me a better understanding of the difference between writing
and daily writing between companies.
Couse Goals:
At the beginning of the course, I hope to improve my level of writing and hope to
acquire experimental techniques that can be applied at work. This class really
satisfies my expectations at the beginning of the course. At the beginning of each
section, we will be asked to modify the examples provided by the professor, which
will allow us to understand what is wrong and what we should avoid. After that, ppt
can tell us in more detail where this example is wrong and what we should do is
correct. Of course, what's more important is that the courses are all about a series of
writing methods that we may have to come into contact with in the future. This is
what I want to learn as a graduating student.
This course also provides a large-scale assignment that takes a long time to complete
after finishing the course content such as ppt. This is also a good way to help us
review the lessons learned in class. Not only that, but during each packet operation,
we also conduct peer review, which is also a good way for students to exchange
ideas and help others find out the shortcomings. Not only do other people point out
my shortcomings in my homework, but I can also learn which aspects I need to avoid
by analyzing other people's homework, and those that I can learn from and learn
from.
Of course, there is also a part of the teacher who helped us to correct the
assignment. This part is also a process in which we can see the defects that we have
not been able to find through professional eyes and make up for it. This process of
course can help me to be more relaxed in my future career. I can understand in
advance how the real professional documents fall to the ground, and how much the
documents I have made are different from the professional ones. Of course, all the
results will be revealed in the final portfolio. I personally regard the portfolio as
another means of showing what I have learned in the course. It is also a test by the
professor to check if we have achieved professional standards. I personally feel that
such a design is very meaningful and can help me a lot.
If I had to say what this class can improve to help other students to learn more about
what they can use in their future work, I think it would be better if they could
provide more practical examples for students to use as a reference. I personally look
for some suitable examples at every assignment to give me a clearer idea of what I
should do, what kind of design is the most comfortable, and what kind of design. I
can do it now. But the level of reference examples that can be found online is high or
low, and it is difficult to understand what is a good design for professional workers.
So I think it would be better if you could provide some examples so that students
could understand these knowledge points more practically.
Assignments:
I personally think that I am most proud of correspondence packet because this is the
most discussed and most designed assignment in class. At first, we need to
substitute ourselves into the identity of the staff of the companies associated with
their respective themes. This is a very novel experience. Because we are not asking a
company as a student, but consulting as a relevant practitioner. I think this is very
meaningful and I like it very much, so maybe this assignment is the job I think can
best help me. The second is that this assignment requires us to design the company's
heading. This is a long but happy process, because many students express their
opinions and suggestions in class. I also spent a lot of time thinking about what
shape to use for heading, which side to put on, and what color to use as the
background. Then there is the color of the font, how it looks like it can be matched
with the company's logo, and what kind of font can be attractive enough. The
homework that was constantly tried and modified during this period and listened to
the advice of others was a very proud assignment.
If I want to add an assignment, I think it would be a good challenge to write a speech
about the topic of your choice. Because this is also a form of article that we may
want to be common in future work and is not the same style as existing assignments.
I think the first challenge is, we need to change the tone of the article from the tone
of writing to the tone of speech. This is an unconventional tone and is not
understood by students who have written many essays. Secondly, the speech is not
only the need to write your own ideas and the information collected, but also how to
make the general audience not bored and can continue to listen. I think this is also
the skill that we need to master in our future work and we don't have the
opportunity to exercise every day, so it would be perfect to get such an opportunity
through this course.
If you could edit any assignment in this course, I will consider some modifications to
the Visualization packet. In the course of my homework, it wasn't just me, there
were other students who were confused about how to collect photos that fit their
theme. Because some of the students' choices are not common or safe enough, it is
difficult to find the material they like. Take my own example, my theme is fire, but in
daily life, I can hardly see fire in addition to cooking, so I always feel that the work
does not reach the quality I want. In this case, I think this assignment needs to be
partially modified. For example, it’s better to have a unified theme for each group.
