Harmful Effects of Smoking

Like most people, you already know that smoking is

bad for health. But do you really understand how
dangerous smoking really is? According to history
today, “Each year, smoking kills more people than
aids, alcohol, drug abuse, car crashes and suicides.”
Today, I will inform everyone and give awareness
about the harmful effects of smoking. There are 3
disadvantages I will give.

Firstly, Cigarettes have many harmful chemicals. Do

you know the content of a cigarette? Over 4,800
chemicals can be found in tobacco smoke including
radioactive materials (polonium- 201), materials used
in paints(acetone), floor cleaner(ammonia),
mothball(naphthalene), pesticide, termite
poison(arsenic), toxic gasses(hydrogen cyanide)
used in the “gas chamber death” of offenders under
sentence of death, Cigarettes also has Carbon
Monoxide(it is released from the exhaust of the car),
Butane(used in lighter fluid), and more.

Second, health problems. Health problems are the

obvious disadvantage of smoking. When you inhale
the smoke from a cigarette, it is breathed deeply into
your lungs. Smoking has been connected to several
types of cancer, including lung cancer, pancreatic
cancer and larynx cancer, as well as disease such as
emphysema and heart disease.
Finally, second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is
just as harmful as smoking a cigarette. Non smokers
could also get lung cancer and heart disease if
they’re exposed to second hand smoke. Next is when
you smoke, your family suffers. If you smoke in the
house, you are putting your family at risk for the same
health problems that smoking causes. Mothers who
smoke while pregnant adversely affect their unborn
babies.

Today, I discussed about the harmful chemicals in

cigarettes. Second, I discussed about the health
problems smoking could give you. Finally, I discussed
about second hand smoke. In conclusion, after you
have been informed about some of the harmful
chemicals, health problems and how second hand
smoke affect non smokers, you hopefully got a better
understanding of the effects of being a smoker.
Although it requires strong will to stop smoking but
once you plan to give up, you can definitely do.
