Growth of e-commerce in Bangladesh
Recently in Bangladesh e-commerce has already crossed the expectations. It
is a leading part of economy in Bangladesh. It is aggregating the investment.
E-commerce was started in Bangladesh in 90s. In the period of 2000-2008 its
growing was pretty slow. But from 2015-2018 the growth rate was almost
200% as the purchasing trend of people is changing. Bangladesh bank
revealed that payment and transactions ware nearly 11billion in June 2008
by credits card. B2C is the most popular form of e-commerce in Bangladesh.
Its growth rate from 2015 to 2018 was nearly 300%. For B2B and B2C were
10% and 90% respectively. Currently more than 50% people are using smart
mobile phones and the growth rate is around 40% annually. There are 50,000
people actively related to e-commerce with the projection of 1,000,000
people being employed in the sector over next 10 year. However,
transactions sizes are still small in Bangladesh in e-commerce. About 29.3%
buyers are using websites directly and 43.5% are using facebook to purchase
products from online.
Now the contribution of e-commerce in GDP is less than 1% but if the
industries are connected with online it will raise almost 2.5%. Per day almost
20 thousands and 5-6 lakhs parcel are delivered all over the country. All sorts
of business will be included in e-commerce and it will help a lot in the
business sector. There are more than 1000 entrepreneurs in Bangladesh who
are running their business though websites. There are more than 10000
facebook pages in Bangladesh that are running business through the pages.
