Course Description This course is designed for Hospitality students who have little or no prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. The main focus of this course is to
develop the student’s oral and written communication in Mandarin. This aims to help students acquire basic tools to enable them to further their
studies in the language such as mastering the Pinyin system and by introducing them to basic Mandarin sentence pattern. Student will also learn how
to read and write several Chinese Characters. Different aspects of Chinese culture, history and traditions will also be introduced. By the end of the
course, students should be able to engage in simple conversations in Mandarin.
Course Intended After completing this course, STUDENTS MUST HAVE DEMONSTRATED
Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the phonetic system of the language.
(CILO) 2. Expand the vocabulary of basic Chinese.
3. Identify basic sentence patterns and ways of expression in Mandarin.
4. Demonstrate the ability to read and write in basic Chinese.
5. Apply their knowledge of Chinese culture and tradition to communication.
