Grade 9 Science Course Outline

Overview:
The grade 9 curriculum continues to promote students to find their passion for science through
the use of inquiry based projects, hands on learning and technology based learning.
Additionally, the course is paired with a Provincial Achievement Test towards the end of the
school year, therefore it is essential that students stay on top of all information and tasks at
hand. The course itself will be team taught by Miss. Fecho (September- December) and Mrs.
MacDougall (January- June)

Through-out this course students will address five different units which include:
Unit 1: Biological Diversity (September- October)
Unit 2: Matter and Chemical Change (October- November)
Unit 3: Environmental Chemistry (December- January)
Unit 4: Electrical Principles and Technology (TBA)
Unit 5: Space Exploration (TBA)

Weighting
Each of the five units are weighted equally and will be composed of an array of labs, quizzes,
projects, worksheets, and tests. To ensure optimal grades are achieved it is essential work is
completed and handed in on time. It is your responsibility to keep track of your
assignments, note booklets, binders etc. Incomplete assignments will be completed in the
lunchtime homework room.

Additional Assistance
A science help session will be available Wednesday and Thursday after school from 3:30-
4:15. These times and days may be subject to change in the New Year.
