Traits of a Good Pediatrician

The document discusses the important traits needed to be a good pediatrician. Pediatricians must be sensitive and show sympathy for children, who are often scared of doctors. They also need to be observant and patient, as children's ability to express themselves is still developing. Building rapport and familiarity with patients over time by seeing the same children repeatedly helps children feel more comfortable. The key roles of a pediatrician are to properly diagnose conditions and treat illnesses while relating well to children.

Analysis:
It’s important to acknowledge that treating children is very different from treating adults.
Children are still in their growing stage of life and many factors will impact the way the
child turns out to be in the future. Thus, there are certain things a pediatrician needs to
follow in order to ensure that the children grow out to be the best they can. One of these
factors include being sensitive concerning the child’s condition. Showing sympathy for
the child will allow him/her to be more comfortable in the pediatric office. Children are
usually scared at the thought of hearing a doctor; therefore, it is helpful to try our best to
connect with them
One of the ways pediatric’s can achieve this is by relating to the child’s
experience. It’s especially helpful for the children to know that their “scary” doctor went
through the same thing they have. This not only helps the children to be more open about
their condition but also lets them relax and be calm. In addition, pediatrics have to be
more observant, open-minded, and patient compared to physicians. Since children are in
the phase of learning how to express themselves, it is often hard for the pediatrician to
know what the child is feeling. Thus, pediatricians have to be more observing of the child
in order to diagnose the proper condition. This quality should come with being
open-minded because we all make mistakes and accepting flaws will lead to a higher
chance of diagnosing the appropriate condition and treatment.
Usually, parents come to the same pediatrician throughout their child’s
development years. This is one of the main reasons that a pediatrician should make the
best first impression and build a strong relationship with not only the parents, but also the
child. When a child gets familiar with a certain doctor, it’s more likely that they are more
at ease at meeting the same doctor the next time.
Children are often times infuriating, but the key is to remind yourself that you are
making a huge impact on a child’s life. The child may not acknowledge your help but it is
not about receiving gratitude; it’s about changing the world without expecting anything in
return. And what better way to change the world than by making a difference in the lives
of our future leaders.
Identifying the Traits Necessary to Make a
Good Pediatrician

Pediatricians not only need to be good doctors, they also need to be able to relate
well to children. Good communication skills are considered the number one trait
a pediatrician should have. They need to be diplomatic, persuasive and
sympathetic when working with children as well as their parents.
Diplomacy is required when the pediatrician needs to talk to parents about
sensitive issues such as personal hygiene or childhood obesity. Doctors also
need genuine compassion when they treat children with chronic illnesses, as well
as gentle persuasiveness when they need to convince parents and colleagues to
make changes in their work or lifestyle.

The Power of Observation

Littleton pediatrics involves the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries
of children. The doctors may not be able to get information from young children
about how they feel, since they are still developing their ability to express
themselves clearly. This is why the pediatrician needs to be observant, patient
and open-minded. The doctor may need to observe subtle changes in the
patient’s demeanor and condition and be able to draw conclusions based on
these changes.

They also need to be open-minded to adapt to change and accept views that may
contradict their own. Pediatricians need to use a variety of tools to make correct
diagnoses.

Building Routine and Familiarity

It is recommended to parents that they visit the same pediatrician throughout

their child’s childhood, so the doctor has a clear, overall view of the child’s
development. It will be easier for a doctor who has known a child since infancy to
understand symptoms and to see chronic problem if they arise. On the other
hand, the familiarity and rapport established throughout time also puts the child
at ease, making a visit to the doctor a lot less scary for them.

Remember, there will be plenty of instances and opportunities for your child and
their pediatrician to interact. You would want it to come to a point when it won’t
be so much of a struggle for you to bring your child into the doctor’s office. In
this case, familiarity can be very advantageous.
