1. Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Internet is one of the most important source through which an individual can easily
get information, and perform thousands of activities. Most schoolwork these days required
a computer and an internet connection, and that includes work to be done at home easily.
But what about the other who don't have internet access? They might be left behind with
their activities in school subjects that requires internet. Lack of internet access is one of
the problem of students that affect their school subject that requires internet access. A 2017
survey of more than 400,000 K-12 students, teachers, librarians and school administrators
conducted by Project Tomorrow, a California nonprofit dedicated to educational equity,
found that lack of in-home internet access is an enormous problem for students in all 50
states. This has been support by researchers at Pew Research who discovered that 17.5
percent of school children in grades 6 to 12 have ongoing difficulties completing school
work due to a lack of internet access. Some of students who lack the resources needed to
complete their assignments they might spend hours looking for free Wi-Fi access points.
Some of students failing in their subject that requires internet access to do an activities
because lack of internet access.

1.2 Problem Statement
By using mobile internet, students can easily access internet anywhere and can able to
clarify their doubts. So internet gives so many benefits to students. They can use it for their
career growth and get knowledge. But how about the other students who don't have internet
access in their home? They might going late at home and stay late at the library to complete
their assignments. One of the biggest problems faced by students without internet access
at home is their inability to complete homework or research paper. Some students fail in
their subjects that requires an internet access. Students from low-income families aren't
exposed to technology and don't see it used as much, or in the same ways, as students from
high income families. Some of parents and students can't afford the cost of school
equipment or digital equipment. According to Mr. Matthew Lynch’s study, About 65% of
students use the internet to complete homework, which includes doing research,
submitting assignments, emailing teachers, and collaborating online with classmates. And
million of students are being left behind because of lack of internet access. And with this
result, the researchers want to know the effects of lack internet in meeting subject
requirements of a student.
4
MRQ: What are the effects of lack internet in meeting subject requirements of a
student?
SRQ:
1. Does the subject requires student to have internet access?
2. Does students need to have internet access?
3. Students have activity that need an internet did they make it?
1.4 Significance of the Study
The importance of this study is to giving realization the subject teachers that has
teaching using internet that not every students has internet access. And it has possibility
that students might left behind in their lesson or activities in school because of lack internet
access. And to determine the effects of lack internet in meeting subject requirements to a
students.
1.5 Scope and Limitation of the Study
The scope in this study are high school in Meycauayan National High School and
colleges students only. Elementary students not included because some of elementary
students have parents that they can help to buy digital equipment for them and to support
them. Other factors that may be included will be for further research.

2. Review and Literature
According to Lynch (2017) that studied the absence of internet at home is a problem for
some students. Lynch found that the lack of internet access can affect a students academic
performances. And also found that students without internet can’t connect with teachers or
classmates, do independent research, or get online homework help. And they might be left
in their lessons or activities.
One study conducted by Perry and Curlin (1998) that
determined the differences exist among various age groups regarding students’ use of the
Internet. It was concluded that many of students used internet and they took hours per week
regularly to do homework and projects.
6
According to Ani (2010) that investigated the extent and level of Internet access as
well as the use of electronic resources by undergraduate students in three Nigerian
Universities. Ani found that undergraduate students use the Internet extensively. However
due to the infrastructure, the access to the Internet in the university libraries,
departments/faculties and university computer/ICT centers. was grossly poor . Private,
commercial Internet services, and cybercafés was the majority of the respondents relied
on. It was also found that the use of electronic resources and databases is needed for the
respondents in Internet education.
One study conducted by Luambano and Nawe (2004) that investigated the Internet
use by students of the University of Dar es Salaam. They found that the majority of the
students were not using the Internet due to the lack of computers with Internet access, lack
of skills in Internet use and slow speed of computers. It was also revealed that most students
who used the Internet did not use it for academic purposes. It was suggested that it should
be provided more computers connected to the Internet and on the use of Internet, training
should be given to the students .
According to Ruzgar (2005) that studied the purpose of the Internet use and learning
via Internet. It was concluded that the Internet has become part of college life and its usage
is approaching 100 percent among students. In terms of activities online, sending/receiving
e-mail topped the list, followed by reading news and finding sports information, research
7
for school-related work, chat, research for products and services, and downloading images.
Ruzgar found that 36 percent of the students spent 1-10 hours per week on the Internet.
Because of their online activities, students watched less television.
Badu and Markwei (2005) studied the use of the Internet and its resources by
academic staff and postgraduate students at the University of Ghana. Their findings showed
that academic staff and postgraduate students were fully aware of the Internet and most of
its services. It was also found that academic staff used Internet more than postgraduate
students. Apart from e-mail, the frequency of using the Internet resources was very low.
Staff and students indicated that they need training for an effective use of the Internet.
One study conducted by Adeyemi (2002) who explained that electronic literature
is very useful for research students due to the wide amount of data it contains. The huge
amount of information at their disposal enable students to have an in depth view of the
research topic. Research and other academic activities require originality and this leads
undergraduates to retrieve information for their work from remote computers around the
world through the Internet. The Internet, which is an important resource for students,
According to Oyegade (2000) as the best source of information retrieval because it is the
gateway to the globe. It has allowed different groups of people, especially researchers, to
create channels of communication and self-expression. According to Thomas (2004), the
Pew Research Center in 2001 reported that 94% of teenagers with access to Internet rely
8
on online information for research tasks and 71% of them used the Internet as the major
source for their most recent school projects. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of the students have
used websites set up by the school or a class, 34% have downloaded a study guide while
17% have created a web page for a school project. Electronic resources, are beneficial for
teaching, learning and research, however lack of skill would probably inhibit students'
retrieval of information from electronic resources.
3. Methodology
3.1 Research Design
The researchers choose the Assessment or Evaluation Study as a research design
for them to know the effects or impact of lack internet in meeting subject requirements of
