II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Development of English as a second language. Practice in listening,
speaking, and reading skills. Emphasis on reading skills and vocabulary
acquisition in context. Introduction to paragraph writing. Requires
additional time in a laboratory. Prerequisite: GEEN 1101. Required
course.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES
It is expected that upon completing the course the student will be
able to:
1. Understand spoken English.
2. Speak English in a variety of contexts and situations.
3. Interpret written texts.
4. Recognize unstated assumptions.
5. Write simple coherent paragraphs.
6. Demonstrate appreciation of the value of reading in English
as a means of communication for personal, academic, and
professional purposes.

A. General Content
1. Reinforcement of listening and speaking skills initiated in
GEEN 1101.

C. English Laboratory
The English laboratory program complements the English class and
encourages the students to play an active role in the learning
process. Its fundamental aim revolves around supplementing the
existing curriculum. The lab program fosters the development of
fundamental communication skills through vocabulary building,
listening comprehension, grammar review, pronunciation practice,
and role-play. The laboratory will be used for remedial purposes
and will include a general grammar review of GEEN 1101
structures.

Notes:
There will be no make-ups for missed tests or quizzes, regardless of
reason. An absence to a test or quiz is 0. Late homework/writing activities
will not be accepted. Quizzes will not be repeated.
Students must activate their university Internet account in the
Computer Center as soon as class starts. This is required for access to
Blackboard Vista.
Students must print the “My Grades” scores corresponding to the
assigned lab module and hand it in on the assigned dates.

V. SPECIAL NOTES
Supporting Services or Special Needs
Students requiring additional services or special assistance must request
these at the beginning of the course or as soon as they learn that they
need them, through the appropriate register at the office of the
Coordinator of Students with Disabilities of the Dean of Student Affairs.
Honesty, Fraud and Plagiarism (General Student Regulations,
Chapter V)
The lack of honesty, fraud, plagiarism and any other inadequate behavior
in relation to academic work constitute major infractions sanctioned by
General Student Regulations. Major infractions, according to General
Student Regulation, may result in suspension from the University for a
definite period of time greater than one year or the permanent expulsion
from the University, among others sanctions.
Use of Electronic Devices
Cellular (mobile) telephones and any other electronic device that could
interrupt the teaching-learning process or disrupt a milieu favorable for
academic excellence will be deactivated. Critical situations will be dealt
with in an appropriate manner. The use of electronic devices that permit
the accessing, storing or sending of data during tests or examinations is
prohibited.
