Banking & Financial Services
The members of the Firm have acted on behalf of various Pakistani and foreign banks
and our practice provides advice in relation to the full spectrum of financial products
including lending & acquisition finance, asset finance, project finance, financial
regulatory, insolvency & restructuring and structured finance.
As such we are fully abreast with current finance and banking developments and are
able to advise on the formulation and implementation of banking products and
financial instruments and engage in the preparation and review of financing and
security documents.
Corporate & Commercial
Our corporate clients include companies in various sectors, and the nature of work in
which the members of our Firm have been engaged includes routinely advising our
clients on the legal aspects of domestic mergers acquisitions and takeovers, as well as
the raising of equity capital and debt finance, and on commercial agreements relating to
agency, distribution, franchising, licensing, manufacturing, leasing and hire-purchase.
Property & Revenue Laws
We are able to advise on all the salient aspects of the acquisition, financing and disposal
of estates in immovable property and the management thereof. We are experienced in
acting for both borrowers and lenders in all manner of property finance transactions,
whether large and complicated transactions or small bilateral loans secured over a
single property, and in rendering advice to financial institutions on taking security over
property. We are also adept at handling litigation matters pertaining to disputes
involving immovable property, including contractual and development disputes,
dispute between landlord and tenant, rent reviews, nuisance claims, possession actions
and convincing disputes.
Constitutional & Administrative
Governmental action regularly affects the interests of individuals and businesses
through legislation and the operation of a wide array of legislative and administrative
orders. We provide counsel to and represent our clients in administrative and judicial
proceedings seeking constitutional protection from the acts of the federal or provincial
governments or bodies/organisations that are organs or act under the aegis of the
federation or the provinces.
Construction & Engineering
We are able to advise on all aspects of construction and civil engineering in both the
public and private sector, including the relationship between employers, designers,
certifiers, contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers. Our objective is to enable our
client’s to understand and reduce the contractual risks involved in construction projects
and resolve contractual issues and disputes in a manner consistent with their
commercial requirements. We strive to ensure that contracts include dispute resolution
clauses that are appropriate in the context of the particular transaction, but should a
major dispute on the contract arise, we are experienced and proactive both in
arbitration and in court.
Employment, Labour & Industrial Relations
We have substantial experience in advising employers on all aspects of labour and
employment law, including the recruitment, retention and retrenchment of staff, the
transfers of employees, the negotiation and drafting of collective bargaining
agreements, wrongful dismissal advice, pension and benefits litigation, worker’s
compensation, drafting individual employment contracts and consultancy agreements
and advising on disputes over executive contracts and compensation. We are also adept
at successfully handling employment/labour disputes before the High Courts, Labour
Courts and the Labour Appellate Tribunal.
Insurance
We provide a comprehensive range of specialist services, including advising on the
establishment and regulation of insurance and reinsurance companies, drafting policy
wordings, advising on insurance issues arising in commercial agreements and corporate
transactions. We are able to advise corporate entities on the legal aspects of their
insurance arrangements, including dealing with non-responding insurers and
problematic insurance claims, and are adept at conducting insurance and reinsurance
litigation and arbitration.
Intellectual Property
In the competitive business environment of today the protection of intangible assets
such as brands, copyrights, trademarks, patents and designs is becoming increasingly
important. Our practice encompasses the complete spectrum of IP issues and we are
able to advise on the registration, management and protection of IP portfolios and on
transactional work involving intellectual property rights, including the assignment of
trademarks, patents, copyrights, and registered designs, research and development,
marketing, product development and distribution agreements and other intellectual
property and technology-based associations. We are also able to conduct litigation
concerning any disputes that may arise involving patents, trademarks, unfair
competition/passing off, copyrights, designs and trade secrets including combating
piracy and counterfeiting, questions of ownership, validity and infringement.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution
We handle a wide range of civil disputes and proceedings as well as white collar crime
and criminal proceedings arising in a corporate context and have particular expertise in
managing complex, multi-faceted cases involving multiple claims and parties. We also
deal with a variety of administrative and revenue law matters that frequently involve
proceedings for judicial review.
We pride ourselves on our ability to deal with the same in an efficient and dynamic
manner, departing from the mechanical and often pedestrian style of litigation that is
generally prevalent, and work to help our clients resolve disputes efficiently and
effectively - whether through arbitration, litigation or other techniques - in a manner
that promotes their business objectives. We are also able to work with clients to develop
compliance programs and other techniques to minimise the potential risk of future

Taxation & revenues
We are able to advise on and deal with litigation concerning income tax, sales tax,
customs duty, stamp duty, central excise duty, and fees, and have had considerable
success in mounting challenges to the unwarranted collection of amounts under these
heads before the courts.

After graduating with a degree in Arts, Mr. Naeem Iqbal went on to take his LL.M.
from the University of Karachi in 2005. He commenced practice at the Bar in 2006 and
has been practicing at the High Court since the beginning of 2008.

Qaisar Sarwar earned his Bachelor of Commerce in the year 2001. Following his law
graduation from Karachi University in 2005, he was employed as Internee with a
prominent Subordinate Courts Attorney, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Shaikh. This provided him
with unique practical experience of applying newly learned legal principles
immediately in a real-world environment under the guidance of seasoned attorney.
In 2007, Qaisar Sarwar accepted a position with Barrister Khalid Jawed Khan as
