5. Senior Scout Code

neighborhood, community, and country. I will deal fairly and

6. Scout Sign, Salute and Handshake

-Scout sign: The sign forms 90 degrees and

is done by right hand. It is used by all

invested scouts who are present at the

investiture ceremony of a new scout, it is

also used when scouts greet each other. Used

while reciting Scout Oath, Scout Law, and

Pledge of Allegiance. The Scout Sign

identifies you as a Scout everywhere in the

world. It is sometimes use to signal

attention. When a Scout leader raises a hand in the Scout sign,

all others should also make the sign and come to silent attention.

The three fingers pointing up symbolize the three points of the

Oath. Duty to God and Country (MIDDLE FINGER), Duty to Others (RING

FINGER), and Duty to Self (INDEX FINGER). They also signify that

a Scout climbs upward to bigger and better things. The two other

fingers stand for World Brotherhood. The thumb and little finger,
separately, represents the two objectives of scouting: Character

Building and Citizenship Training.

- Scout Salute: used to show respect to the

Philippine Flag and when singing the

National Anthem, to show respect and

courtesy for fellow scouts. The forefinger

touches the edge of your right eyebrow, if

you wear eyeglasses, it touches the right

edge of your eyeglasses. If you are wearing

a hat, the forefinger touches the brim of

the hat.

- Scout Handshake: When scouts shake

hands, they use their left hands

(ASHANTI TRIBE). This is sign of trust

and friendship. It is also said that your

left hand is close to your heart, and

that may also be a sign of friendship.

7. Scout Badge

-Scout Badge consists of 2 parts; Badge and Scroll. Three

Points of the trefoil is the three duties of a scout; Duty to God,

Duty to Self, and Duty to Others. Three stars represents Luzon,

Visayas, and Mindanao, also represent the foundation of Scout

Citizenship; Faith, Truth, and Knowledge. They also represent the


stars under which we sleep under during camps. Color Red represents

courage, bravery, heroism, and for the blood of those who died for

our country. Color Blue represents high political purpose and noble

ideals. Color White represents peace and

purity. Sun represents Light, Freedom and

Liberty. Eight Rays of the Sun represents

the first eight provinces that fought

Spanish Rule; Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga,

Batangas, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, and

Laguna. The single band joining the three

points of the trefoil symbolizes unity and

world brotherhood. Scroll below the trefoil

is like the mouth of a smiling Scout, indication that a Scout is

always cheerful and generous with his smiles, on its face is

inscribed the Scout Motto. Overhand knot is used to tie at the

bottom of the scroll it reminds us to do a good turn daily, no

matter how simple it is.

8. WOSM Badge/ World Scout Emblem

- The trefoil, which designates north on compasses and

maps, is one of the most widely used symbols in the world. Similar

to the French fleur-de-lis (lily flower) which is the favorite

flower of Olave Baden- Powell, wife of Baden-Powell.

9. Rover Emblem (Medallion)

- Rounded in shape, represents the

basic unit of Rover Scouting which is

the Circle. In a form of a rope which

symbolizes service within and around

the community. End part is a square

knot, stands for Brotherhood. Red color

of the rope depicts Senior Scouting.

Trefoil, which is the symbol of Philippine Scouting, represents

the ideals of Scouting, its yellow color stands for KAB scouting.

RS are the initials of Rover Scouting, formed with bamboo to


symbolize the great out-of-doors, it is colored green to portray

outdoor environment and Boy Scouting. Light blue color within the

circle is the color of KID Scouting.

10. Thumbstick

- used by Rovers during expeditions

especially on mountains or trails. Used to support

heavy loads. During emergencies, the thumb stick can

also be used to save the life of a victim. It needs

to be shoulder- height and it has 2 uneven branches

that symbolizes the decision making in life.

11. Saint George the Martyr

- knight patron saint of scouting

12. Five Rocks in a Person’s Life

a. Gambling – symbolizes all forms of desire for another

person’s property through a get-rich quick way.

b. Self-indulgence – symbolizes over indulgence in

liquor, smoking, drugs, and food – including laziness.


c. Lust – when someone succumbs to the desire for the

person other than the rightful spouse that a violation of the

justification of life, the peopling of God’s kingdom, is committed.

d. Hypocrisy – there is a great danger in man pretending

to be what he is not; many men stumble on this rock. Thinking that

they are smart, when they are not. They may be able to fool people

around them, but sooner or later this pretentiousness will be

discovered.

e. Irreligion – pertains to man’s relationship with his

Creator. A belief in a Supreme Being is required of those joining

the Scouting Movement.
