THE EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH

1. NOUN

 A noun is the name of a person, place, thing, or idea.


 Let me give you some advice.  The team from Springfield won the

2. PRONOUN

 She lost her ring at the beach.
 The book belongs to Anthony.
 They were sitting by the tree.
 We are running in the gym today.
 The sun is above the clouds.
4. ADVERB

 An adverb modifies or describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.


 Abruptly: I thought the movie ended abruptly.

 Beautifully: The beautifully painted landscape is a wonderful addition to my living room


decor.
 Delicately: Grandma's crystal vase is a priceless antique that must be handled delicately.
 Delightfully: Her outfit showcased her delightfully quirky personality.
 Firmly: The teacher firmly disciplined the students for their misbehavior.
 Lightly: She lightly dusted the brownies with a layer of powdered sugar before serving.
 Truthfully: She truthfully answered the police officer's questions.
 Quickly: Quickly finish the grocery shopping so we can get to the party in time.
 Wearily: At the end of a long day, she wearily headed to bed.
 Willfully: I sent my son to bed early for willfully refusing to eat his vegetables.
5. ADJECTIVE
 An adjective modifies or describes a noun or pronoun.
 She wore a beautiful dress.
 They live in a beautiful house.
 Ben is an adorable baby.
 Lisa is wearing a sleeveless shirt
 Linda’s hair is gorgeous.

6. CONJUNCTION

 A conjunction joins words, phrases, or clauses.

 I tried to hit the nail but hit my thumb instead.


 I have two goldfish and a cat.
 I’d like a bike for commuting to work.
 You can have peach ice cream or a brownie sundae.
 Neither the black dress northe gray one looks right on me.
 My dad always worked hard so we could afford the things we wanted.
 I try very hard in school yet I am not receiving good grades.

7. INTERJECTION

 An interjection is a word used to express emotion.


 Ahem - The sound of someone clearing their throat in an attempt to get your attention

 Aah - Used as a call for help or when someone is scared

 Boo - Used to scare someone or to voice disapproval

 Eh - Used when you didn't hear or understand what someone said

 Eww - Conveys dislike or disgust

 Hmm - Can mean you're thinking or hesitating

 Jeez - Could indicate you can't believe something or you're exasperated

 Ooh-la-la - A slightly comical way to refer to something as fancy or special

 Oops - An exclamation people use when they do something by accident

 Phew - Expressing relief or gladness something is over

8. VERB

 A verb expresses action or being.


 Anthony is throwing the football.
 She accepted the job offer.
 He thought about his stupid mistake in the test.
 John visited his friend for a while and then went home.
 The dog ran across the yard.
 She left in a hurry.
 She yelled when she hit her toe.
 The cat sat by the window.
 I'll play this song on my guitar.
 He hit a home run at the last game
