Reinforcement Pad Calculation

This document provides instructions for determining if a direct branch connection will meet a design pressure condition without reinforcement. It outlines the following steps: 1) Enter the required branch angle and set the reinforcement area to zero. 2) Enter the pipe data for the main and branch. 3) If the design pressure is higher than the allowable joint pressure, reinforcement is required. 4) To calculate the reinforcement area, enter the pipe data and required design pressure. 5) The required reinforcement area will be displayed. Enter this value or the area to be used. 6) The new maximum pressure will be shown and check if the area is sufficient.

Branch Connections

Method for Determining if a Direct Branch Connection Will Meet a Design Condition Without Reinforcement
And if it Does Not, the Extent of Reinforcement Needed
Instructions:
(1) Enter the required branch angle in cell B26. Set cell J25 to zero.
(2) Enter the pipe data in cells A33 to H33. For welded pipe, if the weld seam of the main is not cut use S without the E factor. See typical materials list bel
(3) If the design pressure is higher than the joint pressure, JP, pressure, reinforcement is required.
(4) To calculate reinforcement area enter the pipe data on line 45 with the required design pressure under P.
(5) The required sq in of reinforcement will be under A4. Enter this value or whatever area you will use in cell J25.
(6) The value for JP line 33 will then show your new maximum pressure and the area check.

Typical Material Allowable Stresses:
