Overpopulation refers to a population which exceeds its sustainable size
within a particular environment or habitat. Overpopulation results from an
increased birth rate, decreased death rate, the immigration to a new ecological
niche with fewer predators, or the sudden decline in available resources. Therefore,
overpopulation describes a situation in which a population in a
given ecosystem limit the resources available for survival. Overpopulation is a
serious dilemma that is growing every year, every minute, and every second. We
personally experience overpopulation in the form of crowded streets and shops,
noise and smell pollution, traffic jams, mass recreation, long waits, undersized
houses and urbanization of the country side. Overpopulation is an unpleasant
condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying
capacity of Earth.
Overpopulation is the situation that arises when rapid growth of a population
results in a number that cannot be supported by the available resources. It is
predicted that with the current rate of increase in the world's population, there will
eventually be more people than available resources. Growth in population has
become a major problem because it has led to less available food, clean water, and
other necessary resources. There is only a certain amount of arable land available in
the world, and as population reaches high levels, the amount of vacant livable space
decreases. The quickly growing population is threatening the environment,
resulting in issues including deforestation, desertification, air pollution and global
warming. Some facts about overpopulation currently, there are over 7.6 billion
people in the world. The steady rate of growth of the population has brought about
this huge figure. Asia and Africa constitute the greater share of the world’s
overpopulation statistics. There are around 80 million births in the world every
year. This is the estimated average number of births recorded per year. This means
that there is an addition of at least 80 million people as New Year begins. Over 108
billion people have lived on earth. This is a revelation that is astonishing since the
7.6 billion currently on earth represents just about 7%. This means that of the 108
billion people ever on earth, only 7% are presently alive.
