Student Lesson Plan - Edu 202: The Computer Lab

The lesson plan has the following objectives: 1) Students will identify the style of an art piece by touring the Louvre virtually and researching a piece of art. 2) Students will create their own artwork replicating the style they researched. Students will visit the Louvre website to tour sections, choose a piece of art, and write a one page paper identifying characteristics of the artwork's technique and how they would apply it. They will then create an original artwork using the same style. The lesson will conclude with students sharing their art projects and the styles they replicated. Their work will be assessed based on accurately identifying techniques and applying them in a manner consistent with the original piece.

STUDENT LESSON PLAN -EDU 202

A. Standards: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and
structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning
experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and
meaningful for the learners to assure mastery of the content. The teacher
understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage
learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their
connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
1. Objectives: Students will be able to identify the style of an art piece (knowledge
level). Students will be able to create a work of art in the style they have
identified (synthesis level).

B. Materials/Equipment: The computer lab, http://www.louvre.fr/en/visites-en-ligne,

paints, canvases, brushes.

C. Procedures: The first part of the lesson, would be to have the students go to the
computer lab, and find the virtual tour of the Louvre. From there the
students would pick a section of the Louvre they want to tour and do so.
When they find a piece of art that they like, they are going to research the
piece and write a paper on the art piece. This paper should be one page
long, double spaced and have their name and class period in the header.
The information on the paper should include five characteristics on of the
technique used in the painting, and five examples of how they would use
this technique. The students will replicate the style they researched for
their paper, to create a piece of art of their own.

D. Closure: To review the lesson, I will go over the different styles the students
learned about. Students will share their art projects can, they will also tell
the class about the style they replicated.

E. Assessment: The student level will be AP Studio Art, or Painting III class.
