Bolsonaro: amazon not the lung if the world
Jair Messias Bolsonaro i one of the oldest brazilian presidents in the histori, he is
know in the world for his inconsiderate economic development policies, which makes
him highly criticized by environmental organisations.
His last controversy statement was in september 24, 2019; when he said in the
middle of a UN conference “it’s wrong to say the amazon is part of a global heritage
and wrong to say, as scientists affirm, that our rainforest are the lungs of the world”
and complained about all the acusations by the fires in the amazon. This statement
was strongly criticized by enviromental groups from around the world.
Many of these environmental groups met in front of the UN in protest way; His main
accusations were: "The Earth is burning”, “the Amazon is burning”, “Bolsonaro is a
liar". commanded by Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg, who speaked about
immediate action to avoid an environmental catastrophe.
Bolsonaro position was: “the dry weather at this time of year favored fries, both
spontaneous and illegal, stating that the rainforest is not being devastated by the
blazes as the lying media says” and he added that the “sensationalist attacks” his
government has sustained from the international media over the fires have sparked
Brazilian patriotism. He also criticized the governmental organizations for wanting to
"keep our indigenous peoples as cavemen" in isolated reserves that represent 14
percent of Brazilian territory
Greenpeace, one of the biggest enviromental groups said “For the rainforest and its
people, Bolsonaro is the problem not the solution”. The fires, deforestation and have
increased in amazon, under a Bolsonaro government that has weakened
enforcement against enviromental crimes and plans to allow foreign mining
companis into indigenous reservations.
finally tryng to change the topic, bolsonaro finished talking about to restored
democraci in Venezuela which was suffering the “cruelty of Socialism” under what
he called the “nefarious regime” of President Nicolas Maduro.
Finally, I believe that governments and businesses around the world should be
oriented towards sustainable development. also we as citizens and consumers
should be more aware of our consumption habits
