Section – A

Q.1. Attempt all parts: (1X10=10)

(a) What do you mean by antenna?


(b) Define TEM wave?
(c) What is the basic principal for the antenna to radiate EM waves?
(d) What do you mean by polarization?
(e) Give the significance of divergence of a vector
(f) Define isotropic radiator.
(g) Relate radian and sterradian.
(h) What do you understand by directivity and gain of an antenna?
(i) Define beam efficiency.
(j) List the applications of aperture antenna.

Section – B

Attempt any five questions: (5X5=25)

Q (2) Define radiation intensity and beam efficiency. Relate directivity D and gain G.
Q (3) Explain the importance of retarded potential.
Q (4) What is the effective aperture of an antenna and how it is related to the gain.
Q (5) Write a short note on Binomial array.

Q (8) Compute the effective area of a half wave dipole.
Q (9) Evaluate the radiation resistance of an element of length L=1 m at an operating frequency
of 10 Mhz.

Q (10) How network theorems are useful to infer the properties of a receiving antenna from its
properties as a transmitting antenna?
Q (11) Derive the expression for power radiated by current element.
Q(12) write a short note on multiplication of arrays and show how the radiation pattern of 8
elements can be calculated using this.
