Lesson Notes
Grammar
The Focus of This Lesson is requesting help
Use the following pattern to ask for help
[Pattern]
동사어간+아/어/여줄 + 수 있어요
dongsaeogan + a/eo/yeo jul + su isseoyo
verb stem + a/eojul + can/be able to do
   1. 도와 줄 수 있어요?
        Dowa jul su isseoyo?
        "Could you help me?"
When you want to ask someone for help, use the phrase 아어/줄 수
있어요(a/eojul su isseoyo). Simply add the phrase after the verb/action you
seek help for. 줄 수 있다(jul su itda) is the future tense of the verb
주다(juda)="give"-it is used for requesting help for an action that will take
place in the future.
동사어간+아/어/여 줄 수 있어요? [Can you do it for me?]
This phrase originates from 아/어 주다(a/eo juda)="do something for
someone". Adding this phrase to the stem of a word implies that the action
that is being done is beneficial to you (or for whom the action is being done
for).
Example:
   1. 그는 나를 도와 주었어요.
        Geuneun nareul dowajueosseoyo.
"He gave help to me-->He helped me."
   2. 그는 내 숙제를 해 줬어요.
       Geuneun nae sukjereul hae jwosseoyo.
"He did my homework for me."
동사어간+아/어/여줄 수 있어요? [Could you do it for me?]
동사어간+아/어/여 줄 수 있어(a/eo/yeo jul su isseo) actually means "can do
V". But when you add a question mark at the end, it becomes a phrase
requesting help--"can you do V for me(speaker)?"
Example:
   1. 가 줄 수 있어.
       Ga jeul su isseo.
      "I can go for you."
   2. 가 줄 수 있어?
       Ga jeul su isseo?
      "Can you go for me?"
   3. 데이트 해 줄 수 있어.
       Deitu hae jul su isseo.
"I can go on a date with you."
   4. 데이트 해 줄 수 있어요?
       Deitu had jul su isseyo?
"Can you go on a date with me?"
Review
Use the phrase 아/어/여 줄 수 있어요?(a/eo jul su isseoyo?) when requesting
