THE ITINERARY
Due to ongoing renovation works inside the Louvre, the Mona Lisa has been relocated. It is
expected that you will have a longer wait to see this particular masterpiece, however, rest
assured that your guide will do their very best to escort you to the painting!
You’ll begin in the Denon Wing of the museum with a look at the collection of Italian sculpture
which lines the grand hall. Highlights include Mercury Flying, Psyche Revived by the Kiss of
Cupid, and the Dying Slave series by Michelangelo. The grand staircase at the end houses the
Winged Victory of Samothrace, a testament to Greek civilization at the height of its power and a
fitting introduction to the Italian Renaissance galleries—the artistic apex of another great culture.
The Italian painting rooms are expansive and without an expert guide at hand some important
works might slip your attention. Obviously the Mona Lisa is on the list, but that’s not the only
Leonardo da Vinci piece on show. The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, Saint John the Baptist,
and La Belle Ferronnière are just some of the stunning works you’ll see in a whole new light as
your guide reveals hidden details and background stories that you’ve got to hear to believe.
Masterworks by Botticelli, Raphael, Caravaggio, and Veronese will also be examined closely,
revealing their stories and secrets. You’ll finish in the impressive French grand format galleries.
Masterpieces such as The Raft of Medusa by Géricault or Delacroix’s Liberty Guiding the
People stand side by side with monumental works like the Coronation of Napoleon by Jacques-
Louis David.
At this point your 2-hour art history lesson will be complete and you’ll be ready to explore the
rest of the museum with your new tools of analysis at the ready!
Our skip-the-line tickets give priority access to the museum, however, please note that due
to the Vigipirate Plan (increased security measures), there may be a waiting period at the
security checkpoint at the entrance to the museum.
