5.1 Daily Operations - Startup and Shutdown

To start up the centrifuge, operators bump start both motors to check rotation, start the back drive motor for 10 seconds before starting the main drive motor, allow 10 minutes to reach operating speed, open the suction valve and slowly increase the pump feed rate to the desired processing level. For shutdown, operators slowly reduce the feed rate, shut off the pump, flush until clean liquid discharges, close the suction valve, run for 10 more minutes before shutting down the main motor while the back drive continues on a time delay.

• Startup
– Bump start both motors to check for correct rotation
– Start the back drive motor
– Wait 10 seconds and start the main drive motor
– Give the centrifuge 10 minutes to achieve operating speed
– Open the suction valve on mud tank
– Start pump with a low feed rate
– Bring the feed rate up slowly to desired processing rate

• Shutdown
– Bring the feed rate down slowly
– Shut off the feed pump
– Flush until clean liquid is coming from liquid discharge of centrifuge
– Close the suction valve on mud tank
– Run centrifuge for 10 minutes min
– Shut off the main drive motor, back drive still turns
– Back drive motor will shut off automatically, motor is on a time delay
