(Practice Scenarios)

This training package was developed for shipboard use on all ships that have completed the Naval Surface
Fire Support Team Trainer course presented by EWTGLANT. It is intended to help the ship’s NSFS teams
continue training to maintain proficiency. Each two hour scenario includes most or all mission areas covered
during the actual course of instruction. You may change or modify any of the missions or navigation tracks
included as you deem necessary.

You will need the following:

1. Combat chart of Sonde De San Juan
a. Chart number 118054A (this is the same chart used during the COI.)
2. Target plotters (2)
3. NSFS ruler (1:25000 scale)
4. Stop watch (2)

Some notes of interest to CSTT members administering this training:

The following scripts are intended to be read verbatim, to give the “spotter” the required RT talker response.
The “spotter” should be a member of the CSTT or someone who has been through or is familiar with Naval
Surface Fire Support. All prearranged targets and countermech targets are on the same target list for ease of
plotting and should be plotted prior to starting the scenario.

There are two (2) South to North navigation tracks included with this training package, which include course
made good, speed made good, current set, current drift, and ships grids for any time on the track. If you desire
to use DR navigation, then CIC will lay out the ordered course and speed and use the fix information to
determine the course and speed made good, and current set and current drift.

You may also use the appendix in ATP 4 for additional missions. The only requirement would be to change
the grids in the ATP 4 examples to grids on the training chart. The call signs in the scripts are for training
purposes only and can be modified to suit your needs.
