1. Summary
Sometimes there is a requirement from the business to upload the mass data in SAP system, this
activity can be done thru the Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW), it is a handy tool for
data uploads.

It would be real handy for a functional consultant to know LSMW and it would help them to
successfully complete the task. Hope this document would help.

2. Scenario
Business has asked to update the Date of birth for 100 employees in IT 0002

3. Steps
Go to Transaction Code "LSMW" and follow the following steps:

 Click on Create button and give the name of the Project, Subproject and Object

 Give the name of the Project, Subproject and Object and click on continue

 Click on Execute

 Select Maintain Object Attributes and click on Execute

 Click on Display <-> Change, select Batch Input Recording and Click on Overview

 Click on Create in the popup window give Recording name and Description and click on
Continue

 Enter the Transaction Code and click on Continue

 In this example we are updating the Date of Birth of the employees. Enter the Personnel
no. select info type 0002 and click on change

 Update the Date of Birth and Click On Save (Ctrl + S)

 We will get the recording. Click on Default All and Click On Save (Ctrl + S)

 We have created the recording. Copy the Recording name

 Paste the Recoding name in Batch Input Recording as highlighted below Save the click
on Back.

 Selection will automatically move to the next Process Step - Maintain Source Structure.
Click on Execute

 Place the cursor on Source Structures and Click on Display<->Change

 Click on New and Provide the Source Structure and Description

 Click on Save and Back

 Next Process Step - Maintain Source Fields click on Execute

 Click on Display <-> Change

 Provide the field name that you want to upload thru LSMW

 Provide the Second field and so on that needs to upload

 Click on Save and Back

 Next Process Step - Maintain Structure Relations click on Execute

 Click on Display <-> Change

 Next Process Step Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules click on Execute

 Click on Display <-> Change

 Click on Extras and select Auto-Field Mapping

 Click on Continue in the Popup window

 The mapping is done Click on Save and Back

 Select Process Step - Specify Files and click on Execute

 Click on Display <-> Change

 Double Click on Legacy Data select the path of the file that we need to upload (follow the
sequence as highlighted in the below screenshot)

 Once you give the file path Click on Save and Back

 Next Process Step Assign files. Click On Execute

 Click On Display <-> Change

 Click On Save and then Back

 Process Step – Read Data click on Execute

 Click On Execute

 Check the number of records and Click On Back

 See the number of records read count and Click on Back

 Click on Back

 Process Step – Display Converted Data. Click on Execute

 Process Step - Create batch Input Session. Click on Execute

 Click on Execute, tick the check box ‘Keep batch input folder’

 Click on Continue

 Process Step- Run Batch Input Session. Click on Execute

 Select the file Click on Process select Background and Click on Process

 Once the background job is completed the Status will be Processed
