EL CAMINO: A BREAKING BAD MOVIE
“El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” picks up right where the series ‘Breaking Bad’ left
off. Vince Gilligan and Aron Paul discussed the aftermath of ‘Breaking Bad’ in a movie for
straight two hours. Fulfilling the purpose as fan service this movie didn’t hurt Breaking Bad’s
legacy neither enhance it. There is nothing disastrous about that. This movie is a high quality
piece of action and suspense showing the tremendous performance of Aron Paul as Jesse
Pinkman, whose fate was left wide open after the finale
But the question rose here, does it worth watching a story that had such a proper ending already?
This movie is an appropriate addition to the series ‘Breaking Bad’, then what kind of audience
does this movie makes? Does this movie run 120 minute for the fans, desperate for any last drip
of information about the characters?
In short, the answer to above all questions are even with greater history and specific
moments of ‘Breaking Bad’ the movie “El Camino” still exists as its own self-contained story.
Vince Gilligan , the man who spent breaking bad showing us everything leaves a footprint,
everything matters every little details matters and they can all come back to haunt you. This is a
follow up to the Television series focusing on the character of Jesse Pinkman.
How great Aaon Paul is as Jesse Pinkman. This was one of the roles that seems like an actor was
born to play and he slips right back into it. This is a very hurt and broken Jesse. The events of
being held captive and then his escape in the finale of Breaking Bad. We have literally pick up
seconds after the show left him and find out where he went and his life. How he adjust to the
events that have happened in his life.
This really does feel like Vince Gilligan and Aaron Paul returning to this character to tell
one more story almost like a’ by the way’ as you are walking out the door. It is a very relaxed
1
tone that does make the movie to feel it’s length at times but at general I think the lack of
urgency is not necessary a bad thing because again this is not Vince Gilligan striving to set a
bunch of things. It is him closing a couple of doors, closing a couple of windows, turning out the
lights, perhaps on this chapter of the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe. Now one thing you definitely
know going in is that, this is not an entry-level movie for someone who is interested in getting
into the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe. There is no hand-holding there is no expository reminder scene
that introduces certain people that may not remember or remind you of where certain thing left
off, or which characters are there or who did what.
There was an itch for me as a fan of Breaking Bad that had not been scratched since the
finale was done. There was always this lingering question about Jesse Pinkman and that not to
mean that every character has to have a bow put on it and explain exactly what happened .But
Jesse Pinkman was such an integral part of the show and then for his finale that have been left so
kind of open-ended. It was the one detail that I legitimately thought that I would like to know
more about. So I enjoyed this movie as a fan of “Breaking Bad”, as a fan of Aaron Paul. It was
great to see this character coming back to the screen to resolve his story.
It feels like as a story-teller that character of Jesse Pinkman needed this resolution and I
was satisfied with it, I am satisfied with it as a fan. There is now a chapter that has been closed
and in many ways now I do feel like the book has been closed on Breaking bad completely and
fully. So for fans of Breaking Bad I think this is really a kind of thoughtful meditation on the
character of Jesse Pinkman and does show you where his journey wound up in a way that the
show itself did not. If you are not a fan of Breaking Bad I don’t necessarily think that this is
going to be a movie that you can dive right into this show is for the hardcore fan of the show you
2
are certainly welcome to watch it and you will enjoy the acting and the cinematography but at
the same time I think a lot of this is going to fly right past by you but I enjoyed this film.
It is a recommendation from me as a fan of the show, and if you are not a fan of the show I think
you are going to eventually like it.
