CHAPTER I

1. Background of the Study


Humans born with different physical characteristics are not a derived failure. It’s all a
gift from God. God creates human with many variety and types and all of them are equal in
the eye of God. One of human differences are defined by the variety of race. In the world,
humans consist of a very large number of the race. Races differentiate people based on some
aspects, such as physical traits, culture, habits, clothes, way of living, etc (referensi). Related
to the race, unfortunately some people in the world sometimes still consider that one race is
better than another or even worse they treat other races differently with their own race which
lead to a situation which called racial discrimination.
Racial discrimination is one of the biggest social issues in the world. It commonly
happens in areas where two or more different races exist in the same society. Discussing
about racial discrimination must be preceded by the explanation of discrimination itself.
According to Cambridge Dictionary, discrimination is treating a person or particular group of
people differently, especially in a worse way from the way in which you treat other people,
because of their skin colour, sex, sexuality, etc [1]. Discrimination in this case can consist of
many different types, which one of them is racial discrimination or usually called racism.
