Brief Industrial Profile of Bidar District
General Characteristics of the District
1.1 Location & Geographical Area.
The Bidar district is the northern most part of the Karnataka state with
geographical area of 5460 sq.km. It lies between 17°35’ and 18°29’
North latitude and 76°41’ to 77°39’ East longitude. It is bounded by
Nizamabad and Medak districts of Andhra Pradesh state on the eastern
side, Latur and Osmanabad districts of Maharastra state on the western
side, Nanded district of Maharastra state on the northern side and
Gulbarga district on southern side.
1.2 Topography
The entire district forms a part of the Deccan Plateau and is made up
mostly of solidified lava. The northern part of the district is characterized
by expanses of level and treeless surface punctuated here and there by
flat and undulating hillocks, black soils and basaltic rocks. The southern
half of the district is a high plateau about 715 m above mean sea level
and are well drained. The average elevation of the district is between
580 to 610 m above mean sea level. Alluvial deposit is normally found
along the banks of the Manjra river and its main tributaries.
1.2 Availability of Minerals.
The minerals found in the area are Bauxite, Kaolin and Red ochre. A
deposit of highly siliceous bauxite clay has been located about three
kilometers south of Basavakalyan. Similar deposits are noticed near
Alwal and Kamthana Villages of Bidar taluk. A large deposit of Kaolin is
located near Kamthana village. Red ochre deposits are found near Sirsi
and Aurad Village.

1.4 FOREST:
Forest areas of Bidar division are classified as Reserve forests,
Protected forests and Unclassified forests.
Bidar Forest division is having 43,592 ha. of Forest area including
Reserve Forests, Protected forests and Unclassified forests. This area
is about 8.5% of total geographical extent of the district.
1.5 Administrative set up:-
The Bidar district is constituted by five talukas i.e. Aurad, Basavakalyan,
Bhalki, Bidar and Humnabad with Bidar being the head quarters of the
district.

The year-wise growth trend in establishment of new units in MSME
sector, witnessed a trend that is growing steadily for the past 3 years
though it dropped for 3 years between 2006 - 09. In addition to the six
fold increase in Investment, this sector enabled doubling employment to
more no of people in the district in the last 3 years.

A large number of enterprises in the district are in Trade, Transport & Hotel
sectors followed by Repair & Servicing units. There are a number of traditional
Artisans & Crafts men working in Bidri Craft & Zardosi Saree design. This
district is still considered the most industrially backward in the entire state and
being offered many incentives for the new enterprises to promote Industrial
development. The ministry of MSME has approved a proposal to establish a
CFC at a cost of 7.45 Crore Rupees, for the Autonagar Units’ cluster engaged
in Repair & Service of Automobiles of all kinds.

the Ready Made Garments sector. Large Exporters of RM Garments from
Bangalore like M/s Shahi Exports, Acquiral Apparel (P) Limited & BB
Knitwear from Sholapur, Maharashtra to explore the possibilities of
Ancillarisation & prospecting tie-ups with the 100 odd participants of the
district from MSME sector.

4.1 DETAIL OF MAJOR CLUSTERS
The Auto Nagar units engaged in Service & repair of automobiles is a big
cluster as Bidar has a significant locational advantage. For a number of High
Precision jobs in this field, they are dependant on Hyderabad in AP state.
4.1.1 Manufacturing Sector
Bidri craft is a traditional artisan based cluster and the same is being upported
by NABARD & with DC Handicrafts’ intervention.

Present status of the cluster :- The proposal for setting up a CFC
by way of a Hard intervention is approved by the Steering
Committee on perusal of the Detailed Project report for a total
project cost of Rs. 7.45 Crores out of which 10% is the contribution
of the State Government and 10% by the SPV. 80% of the project
cost is met by the Government of India under MSE - CDP scheme.
