Rehearsal Safety Procedures
Dear Elementary Band Parents:
The following procedures have been put into place in order that all the children that attend
after-school band rehearsals will be safe at all times:
1) Every child must return a music department emergency medical form to either band
director. If your child has not done so yet please see either band director for one to be
filled out immediately. Also, please notify either band director when any of the
information on the form changes. Please make this a priority!
2) All children must be dropped off and picked up by the side entrance to the music wing
and are to enter and exit that door only if they are by themselves. By using any other
door we cannot provide adequate safety for your child! One of the band directors
should arrive at the middle school by 3:15 PM. If you arrive early, please wait with your
child until this time so that proper supervision can be provided.
3) If you wish to come into the building and pick up your child you may exit any way you
wish; however, you must come into the building to do this. Please do not instruct
your child to meet you outside if it means that your child must leave through a different
door other than the side door. This could be an unsafe situation!
4) All children must have full knowledge of how they are getting home before coming to the
rehearsal and some notification must be given to either band director if out of the
ordinary arrangements have been made.
5) Children who have not been picked up after the first large wave of children has left must
go back and wait inside by the side door. Late parents must drive around to this side
door. Once a student sees his or her ride they can leave out that door only. Parents
can also go inside to pick up their child, as well. No child or children in a small group will
be left alone waiting outside for a late ride at any time at this side entrance.
6) We do understand that it is not always possible to pick up your child right at 5 PM;
however, we strongly urge that every effort be made to pick-up your children as promptly
as possible!
7) Any child who continually causes an unsafe environment at these rehearsals will be
not be allowed to continue in the after school program.
We want to assure parents that no child that we know of will be left waiting for a ride alone
no matter how late, but we would like to ask you to also be considerate of our families as
well and to try to be as prompt as possible. As a side note, many children, over the course
of the year, leave belongings in the band or set-up rooms. Our practice has been and will
continue to be that we will only take with us music related belongings if left behind.
Homework books and articles of clothing or anything else will be left in the band room in a
box marked “Elem. Band Lost and Found”.
These policies may seem inconvenient at first but they will help us to keep your child safe.
We ask that you please respect these policies and as always please contact us with any
concerns that you may have..
