House, Could Not Be A Bill!: Mark Kevin Sejesmundo 10-Austen Maria Clara P. Palisuc

The document discusses a proposed bill called House Bill 388 that would prohibit teachers from assigning homework to students on weekdays. Currently, the Department of Education only enforces a no-homework policy on weekends for elementary students. While some argue homework has negative effects, others believe it is important for assessing student understanding and comprising a portion of grades. There is no consensus on whether the policy should apply to private schools. Overall, the document debates the potential benefits and drawbacks of prohibiting homework assignments on weekdays.

House, could not be a bill!

House bill 388 otherwise known as the no-homework policy bill is a policy proposed by the
senate congress where the teachers couldn’t give a home-take task to a student. However,
this could not be done because of some instances like the teacher’s assessments, student’s
performances, and student’s schedules. and where; teachers are only prohibited from
giving assignments to their students on weekdays this could not be done during weekends
(Saturday and Sunday).
According to the proponent of this measure, homework has negative effects on children in
terms of their learnings in some issues this could not be prohibited because it takes the time
that is supposed to learn the lesson.

Currently, the Department of Education (DepEd) enforces the no-homework policy on

weekends only. This policy covers elementary students in public schools. According to the
department's directive: "No -homework /assignment shall be given during weekends for
pupils to enjoy their childhood, and spend quality time with their parents without being
burdened by the thought of doing lots of homework." (Students may not be assigned a
weekend assignment so that they can enjoy childhood and make time for their parents
without remembering to do multiple assignments.)

However, by assignments teachers could assess his/her students especially those students
who are unable to get the lesson for the first teach, that’s why for many students to need to
have a home-take task so that they were able to learn it by their own.

According to some teachers, there is about 30%-40% of student’s grade came from their
written works that’s why homework is helpful for a student to reach their average passing
grade and 30% is a great impact if the congress prohibits to ban homework.

The governing body of private schools is deciding whether to implement Currently, to

implement it as well. But Federation of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators
(FAPSA) president Eleazardo Kasilag said they did not agree to implement it in private
schools.it further emphasizes that the benefit of homework depends on the age of the
student. Those who enjoy the benefits of homework are those who are in high school but
who are not supposed to be regular children in school. But more than two hours of
homework is also harmful to the student. When it comes to homework, it is the parents who
make the children feel bad because they are tasked with worrying the children to do their
homework. This results in the mother being bullied and being the children's complainant.
While, Gatchalian said in a statement on Wednesday, August 28, “I believe that our
teachers are more than capable to discern what and how much homework to assign to their
students to encourage good study habits and foster intellectual development,” Gatchalian
said in a statement on Wednesday, August 28.

We have to think about it, that if we don’t give time for a child to learn, then there is
nothing, they will learn but to be free from themselves, it’s just difficult to accept that
education nowadays is not yet becoming important for many of us. “But then at the end, we
have to realize that education is only thing that we have to make the world survive”.
