Resources FPD

This document provides resources and instructions for 5 weekly science activities on states of matter: Week 1 introduces solids, liquids, and gases. Week 2 involves making slime and observing its properties. Week 3 prompts creating a poster about a state of matter. Week 4 is an experiment to compare how fast different materials melt ice. Week 5 reviews states of matter through a knowledge chart and particle diagrams.

SOLIDS LIQUIDS GASSES

Week 2- SLIME MAKING

Equipment:
- Bowl - Corn flour
- Spoon - Water
- Measuring container - Food colouring
Steps:
1. Answer before question
2. Measure 1 cup of corn flour and pour into bowl
3. Measure ½ a cup of water
4. Add 2 -3 drops of food colouring into water
5. Pour water into bowl
6. Mix
7. Do during activities
8. Pack up
9. Answer after questions

Before making:
What do you think this substance will be? (a solid liquid or gas)

Why?

During:
What does the slime look and feel like?

Try mixing the slime really slowly, what to you notice?

Try mixing the slime as fast as you can, what do you notice?

After:
What did you observe about the slime?

Do you think this substance was a solid, liquid, or gas?

Why?

(Instructions on task)
You are to create an informative poster that answers the following question.

1. You are to pick only ONE of the following:

a) SOLID
b) LIQUID
c) GAS

2. Define your chosen state of matter.

3. What are the characteristics of your state of matter?

4. Give some common examples of the chosen state of matter.

5. Is there any way your state of matter can be changed? How?

For example, can it be changed from a liquid to a solid?
Week 4

What item do you think will melt the ice the fastest?

What method are you going to use to melt the ice?
