CFE Reflection

The document discusses a movie about Jesuit missionaries attempting to convert Indigenous people to Christianity in the 16th/17th century. It portrayed the Christians/Catholics representing light and the Indigenous religions representing darkness. The movie showed the challenges the missionaries faced but also how the Church's pursuit of power corrupted its holy values over time. It had a scene where a bishop had to choose between continuing the difficult mission work or sacrificing it for people's well-being, choosing the former. The key challenge discussed was to persevere through difficulties, as trials strengthen resolve and dark days are temporary on the road to lasting success through hard work.

MY MISSION

The movie shows some sort of antagonism between two poles, with the Christian
religion representing the light and the Indigenous sects representing the darkness.
According to the movie, and the Jesuits, the Indians had to be saved and only through
Christianity.

It shows us that Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and at the same time sees
a perspective of salvation outside Christianity. The central point of the story appears
to be Christian values in their purest crystalline conception: catechization as way to
salvation and submission to the divine will as the only path for the good soul (often
represented by Church and tradition). However, the movie makes clear how the
creation of the institution Church ended up perverting the holy values of Jesus Christ
in relation to questions of power.

There is this part of the movie that I cannot forget it is when the bishop was asked
to choose, to either continue the rough road while in midst of chaos and pursue the
mission or sacrifice the mission for the common good. It might be a tough choice to
make because the church is somewhat called as the “Pro Life” meaning they wouldn’t
sacrifice human life to expand their christian influence, But they did. As seen in the
movie challenges and triumphs are inevitable but they still managed to pursue their
mission because they are dedicated and locked to their goals.

That was the challenge of the movie to me. That regardless of what happens, I
know I will come trough. I accept that dark days are part of life. These trials serve to
strengthen me and mold me. They serve to make me a batter person who understands
the value of perseverance. That challenges are just temporarily few bumps along the
road and the sweet success of hard work is what really matters that will last. In
doesn’t matter how hard or how will I manage to attain, because the road to success
and the road to failure is almost exactly the same.
