WASTE SEGREGATION PLAN
Every area in our workplace generates waste. It is part of every employee’s
responsibility to make the workplace not only clean but also sanitized and free from
any hazards. It is also the institution’s task to develop a system to identify the waste
generated in the area and considers the ways on their proper disposal. Hence, waste
segregation plan must be implemented.
The management of our institution in coordination with the Maintenance
Department and cooperation from all employees will initiate the latest plan of the
enhanced waste management program.
First , some facts about the waste management laws:
Presidential Decree (PD) 1152 “the Philippine Environmental Code” provides
a basis for an integrated waste management regulation starting from waste
       source to methods of disposal.
PD 1152 has further mandated specific guidelines to manage wastes (solid
       and liquid),
Republic Act RA 6969 seeks to protect public health and the environment
from unreasonable risks posed by toxic substances in the Philippines.
Aside from the basic policy rules and regulations of RA 6969, hazardous
waste management must also comply with the requirements of other specific
environmental laws such as PD 984 9Pollution control law) PD 1586 (
Environmental Impact Assessment System law), RA 8749 (Clean Air Act),
and RA 9003 (Ecological Solid Management Act) and their implementing
       rules.
Our institution is making strides to become more sustainable, and now there is a
new way for the employee to do their part.
Starting 2013, there will be improvements to how trash and recyclable materials
are handled in our institution.
STEP 1- The Institution janitorial contractor will no longer empty the trash can.
Everybody is responsible for depositing trash into the new centralized trash
and recycling stations placed throughout the campus. Employees are asked
to continue taking their recyclables to the stations .
STEP 2- The office trash cans will now be placed with a new , mini bins that are
        intended to discourage waste production
STEP 3- new trash and recycling stations will be conveniently located throughout the
campus to make it easy to empty the mini bin.

STEP 4- Janitorial staff will use white or black colored liners for the centralized
containers and will use blue liners for the centralized recycling stations.
The new mini bins that will replace the existing trash can are 6 inches tall and can
hold 1.5 liters of garbage. This new system has proven to both significantly reduce
the amount of trash produced while simultaneously increasing the percentage of
trash that gets recycled.
