GUIDANCE, COUNSELLING AND TESTING SERVICES OFFICE
MIDYEAR REPORT (S.Y. 2019-2020)
AND RECOMMENDATIONS
INTRODUCTION
Guidance, as a major facilitating process in schools, supports the generally
accepted goals of our society and the basic philosophy underlying the aims of our school.
The counselor’s work in the school’s guidance program is developed and carried out on the
following premises: (1) total acceptance of the dignity and worth of each individual child,
as a human being; (2) recognition of the individual differences among children; (3) the
right of each individual to exercise freedom of choice and (4) the importance of assisting
each to develop to their full potential.
Within the framework of these premises, the counselor’s work is mainly
accomplished through helping relationships. The unique characteristics, experiences,
problems, and concerns of the individual emanating from various backgrounds must be
taken into account. Such special attention requires that the school counselor and other
special personnel be cognizant of the total resources within the school and its environment.
It also requires that the guidance program should join forces with the whole school
administration to examine the characteristics of special groups to determine and develop a
pattern of guidance to facilitate successful development of children.
This report covers the period from June to November 2019.
GENERAL SUMMARY REPORT
As of November this school year, the Guidance Program of the School Year
2019-2020 was positively implemented by the Counselor Designate especially in the field
of counselling services. The 2019 action plans had not been a problem. The Principal and
the Faculty concerned were all out in support. However, there are minor glitches like the
overriding of activities that hinders or delays the activities of the Guidance services.
A. COUNSELING SERVICES
Counseling is the “heart” of the Guidance Services Office. It is where the
students freely express themselves without judgment from others. This school year,
almost all the students encountered one-on-one interview though some have not
been documented for some reasons. Problems about career, interpersonal
relationships and academics were the most common problems they shared.
Cases of some pupils and students were brought in the office for
intervention. In coordination with the Prefect of Discipline, these matters
constituted violations of the school rules and regulations. The principal then
formally called the parents and gave them memorandum of agreement about the
school intervention.
Grade 10 students were the frequent clients in the Guidance Office.
B. TESTING SERVICES
This November, there will be an upcoming Diagnostic Examination that will
be facilitated by the Center for Educational Management. This is a yearly diagnostic
tool to assess and evaluate the intellectual and cognitive ability of our students from
Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Examination includes subjects like English,
Mathematics and Science.
C. INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION SERVICES
Career Guidance Advocacy Program will also be set this November which
will cater to Grade 10 and Grade 12 students. This will provide the students on which
career path to choose and some immersion work guidelines to help them prepare for
their chosen tracks.
D. FOLLOW-UP SERVICES
The office is currently planning for projects and activities for the alumni
homecoming. The office is also trying to undergo a tracer study for the CFS Graduates
and alumni.
