Imus Municipal Plaza
Imus is the Flagship Capital of the Philippines and the Imus plaza was inspired by that title.
This plaza though famous in the area of Imus, isn’t as famous as other land marks but it holds
many historical knowledge.
One of which is the statue of General Licerio Topacio, he is known for declining the offer
of becoming the President of the Revolutionary Government because of some reasons but mostly
his age at the time. This event paved way for Emilio Aguinaldo who was younger than him, at
the time, to win against Andres Bonifacio. Despite a young age, he led the revolutionary army
against Spaniards and Americans, a like. In his vigor and passion for the country he won his
battles and died at 86 years old on April 14, 1925.
There are many other notable leaders who are featured in this plaza. These “Sons of Imus” is
what they are referred to on the contrary because they were the original settlers and bedrock of
what Imus is today.
Battle of Alapan monument is also seen in the plaza it is portrayed as a marble hand holding
the Philippine flag. It is to pay tribute to the victory in the battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898
where the flag was first displayed in a battle field
Café Marcello
Casa de Celo a delicious legacy of Marcello, well known in Imus as, Café Marcello. This
resto bar opened on December 1995 that only had 16 chairs and 4 tables. In the present they
evolved into a two story establishment that can be rented as an events place. It is a renowned
restaurant and on a daily basis, visited by governors of Imus and even beauty queens because of
its delicacies.
Café Marcello offers a wide variety of dishes and beverages ranging from international to
local delicacies. Although, they are well known in Imus for their, never fading, boneless Bangus
and Imus style Longanisa. What they offer in their menu is quite expensive for and average
person but is quite reasonable. The price is at par with the quality of food and drinks they serve.
According to regular customers when asked “Why do you keep coming back here to Café
Marcello?” they often reply that it is already a common practice to eat in, twice or thrice a week
because it reminds them of the original taste of the local food that dates back to when they were
young. This original delicacy that is being preserved and passed on in Café Marcello is important
because it is part of Imus’ history.
