Scale Sheet

The document contains instructions for constructing various scales to represent different measurements and ratios. Some key points: 1. It provides examples of constructing plain and diagonal scales with different ratios (RFs) to represent lengths ranging from centimeters to kilometers. 2. The scales are to show different units of measurement such as meters, decimeters, centimeters, kilometers, hectometers, and decameters. 3. Specific instructions are given to construct scales that measure up to certain distances, such as 6 meters or 1 kilometer, and to represent example lengths on each scale. 4. RFs are calculated in some cases based on the ratio between an actual distance and its represented length on a map or drawing.

SHEET NO 2 (Scales)

1. Construct a scale of 1:5to show decimeter and centimeter and to read upto 1m. Show
the length of 7.6dm on it.
2. A 3.2 cm long line represents a length of 4m. Extend the line to measure length upto
25m and show on it unit of m and 5 meters. Show the length of 17m on this line.
3. A rectangular garden of area 16 km2 is shown on a map by a similar rectangle of 1cm2
. Construct a plain scale to show units of the 10km and 1km and long enough to read
upto 60km. Find the R.F. of the scale . Also show a distance of 53km on it.
4. A cube of 5cm side represents a tank of 8000 cubic meter volume. Find the R.F and
construct a scale to measure upto 60m and mark on it a distance of 47m and 24m on
it.
5. Construct a diagonal scale of 3:200 showing meter, decimeter and centimeter and to
measure upto 6m and show on scale 3m 5dm and 7cm.
6. Construct a diagonal scale of R.F = 1/6250 . Construct a plain scale to read upto 1km
and it should read meters on it .show a length of 653m on it.
7. On a building plan a line 20cm long represents a distance of 10m. Devise a diagonal
scale for the plan to read upto 12m showing meter , decimeter and centimeter. Show
on your scale the length 6.48m and 11.14m

Draw a diagonal scale of RF = 3/100, showing meters, decimeters and centimeters and to
measure up to 5 meters. Show the length of 3.69 meters on it.
Construct a scale of R.F = 1/(2.5) to show decimeters and centimeters and to measure up to 4
decimeters. Show on it lengths 2.3 dm.

*An area of 144 sqcm on a map represents an area of 9 sqkm on the field. Find the R.F. of the
scale for this map and draw a diagonal scale to show kilometers, hectametres and decameters
and to measure upto 6 kilometres. Indicate on the scale a distance of 4 kilometres, 5
hectametres and 6 decameters
*Construct a Diagonal scale of RF = 3:200 showing meters, decimeters and centimeters. The
scale should measure up to 6 meters. Show a distance of 4.56 meters.
*The distance between city A and City B is 15km. On inspection of the road map, its
equivalent distance measures 3cm. Draw a diagonal scale to read 50m minimum. Show on it
a distance of 3.85km.
*Construct a diagonal scale to read kilometers, hectometers and decameters and long enough
to measure up to 6 kilometers. When a line of length l cm on the map represents a distance of
0.5 kilometers. Calculate the R.F and indicate a distance of 2.45 kilometers on the scale.
Construct a scale to read distances on a map in which the actual distances are reduced in the
ratio of 1:40000. The scale should be long enough to measure 6 kilometres. Mark on the scale
the lengths of 3.3 km and 0.7 km.
*The actual length of 300m is represented by a line of 10cm on a drawing. Draw a scale to
read up to 400m. Mark on the scale a length of 360km.
*Draw a diagonal scale of R.F. = (3/100) , showing meters, decimeters and centimeters, and
to measure up to 5 meters. Show the length of 3.69 meters on it
*The distance between two stations is 100 km and on a road map it is shown by 30 cm. Draw
a scale and indicate distances of 56 km and 22 km on it.
