correctly. A basic complete set of computer is applied to mouse, keyboard, monitor and a
Computer Processing Unit (CPU). A computer is commonly used by many people globally to
use the software as a consumer or creating software as a software engineer. (Simpson)

As for Tupperware Brands , it is currently used to keep the record of client details between their

Software

Software is typically the series of instructions that tells the computer what and how to do it. Like
hardware, they won’t be able to process properly without the existence of hardware. Software
functions as the brain while hardware functions as the body. Without either one of these, the
computer will breakdown. The only difference between software and hardware is, hardware can
be seen and touched physically while software is a group of application with many functions.
(Intan Chempaka, 2011)

(CHEAP KEY SALE, 2010) (Smith, 2007)

Unlike any other companies which uses Microsoft Excel and Access or any other common tool
most company uses, Tupperware Brands uses their own software to keep information and details
of their product. The software Tupperware Brands currently using is iPS (IPower System).

This software is specially made only for members and employees of Tupperware Brands. It is
more convenient as it is already custom made through web. Like the function GIRO, it is only
applicable to Singapore users. As for the other functions are mostly to show the transaction, bills,
billing date and many other more.

People

People are ones who interacts one another with a computer or uses the information that
generates skilled, Up-to-date IT knowledge and trains a person to be professional IT user. People
are important assets in a successful development and use of technical information system
especially in the wide fields of business industry. For an example in Tupperware Brands, their
“Human Resources” such as employees played the main role in the business world as they are
the “branches” who supports “roots” which is known as the headquarters. This is because,
training of an employee may consume a lot of time and money. Also, due to their lack
knowledge to the information system, they might cause the production to decrease and not
efficient. On top of that, numbers of customer will be decreased. (Intan Chempaka, 2011)

Direct and Indirect Users

For users, it is divided into two (2) groups which are the direct users and the indirect users.
Direct Users are users who use the information system to get the latest update in information.
Examples Direct Users are Customers, Manager, and others. As for, Indirect Users they do not
get information through information system but from the Direct Users.

Direct Users

System administration from I-Power Berhad

They make sure the system is able to function efficiently and properly while not forgetting to
improve and maintain the quality of the system.

Headquarter Manager

One of the important user in the company to help update and control the latest products into the
website.

Procedure

Procedure is mainly defined as an instruction or set of instruction that a user is supposed to

follow in order to accomplish an activity. (Intan Chempaka, 2011)

For an example, it’s like a transaction of one of the product. In order to fully sell a single
product, the customer must first visit the store either through walk-in or online. From there they
will make a choice either to purchase which product they desire and then once selected,
transaction will be made through either cash or credit card. Lastly, the cashier or person in
charge will key in the record into their database. This is one complete cycle of procedure.

From Customer to Consultant through online.

Firstly, customer can either choose to go online or walk-in. In this case, the customer will choose
to go online on the web browser and enters the website (http://www.Tupperware.com.my) to log
into the official Tupperware website.

Current Problems.

Tupperware Brands is currently facing the problems of lagging issues. Due to the amount of
branches they have built nationwide means they need to have a better computer server in order
for the computer at Headquarters to receive multiple files from all the other branches. While the
files and details of clients from branches are being sent to the headquarters, the server might be
overflowed and might breakdown due to the server being unable to handle too much files at a
time. This will cause some of the client’s details to be lost and or corrupted and the clients will
lose faith in trusting the company.

Computer Security

An Anti-Virus is a compulsory to be installed into a computer to keep safe a company’s

information system. In Tupperware Brands of Seri Petaling Branch, They are using Windows
Firewall and an antivirus software, namely Norton Antivirus 2005 as their computer security.
The very reason why the antivirus is installed is to prevent their company’s system from being
hacked and virus attacks. Without the existence of antivirus, the viruses can leak information out
from their system and transfer into the main server of Headquarters.

(Free Fun Vid)

This is the Norton Antivirus 2005 currently used by Tupperware Brands of Seri Petaling Branch.

TUPPERWARE BRANDS COMPANY Page 22

GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Ethics and Privacy Issue

Ethical Issue

There are many ethical issues within the company. One of the main issues is that the
Headquarters must look for a trustworthy employee to handle the client details and transactions.
If the employee were to sabotage the details and take advantage of it and once found out, it will
give a bad impression towards the company. Therefore, the employers from the headquarters
must be very cautious in picking a representative which is responsible and trustworthy to handle
the branch.

Privacy Issue

As interviewed, there aren’t any privacy issue that is currently being faced inside the Tupperware
Brands Company.

TUPPERWARE BRANDS COMPANY Page 23

GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Backup System

Tupperware Brands company uses Norton Online Backup 25GB as a backup system. They
decided to use this backup system because it comes in a package with their current Norton
Antivirus 2005, so instead, they used this software. This software is able to backup their clients’
details through online and it has an automatic function to backup the file processing at any time.

(Norton)

How it works

TUPPERWARE BRANDS COMPANY Page 24

GROUP ASSIGNMENT

The figure above show that how to set the setting to backup the file automatically and how to
restore the date that have lost.

Solution

As the company also face lag issues due to the weak performance produced by the server,
Tupperware Brands should either upgrade and or getting more servers to be able to handle the
overflowing files being sent from the branches so that the files won’t be lost. Also, they should
upgrade their Operating System into a newer version to fix the lag issues.

Recommendation

We would highly recommend Tupperware Brands to use the latest anti-virus software, avast!
Internet Security as it provides maximum protection. This is because the latest antivirus would
update their virus database to prevent new types of viruses entering to their system compared to
their old antivirus which have a lot of flaws and is vulnerable.

(avast!)

The several functions that avast! Internet Security is able to help Tupperware Brands are :

 Antivirus with anti-spyware – Improved minimum protection for every PC.

 Safely shop or bank online – The innovative SafeZone™ keeps your accounts private.
 Secure your identity and data – Advanced Firewall automatically prevents hacker attacks
 Stop bothersome SPAM – Anti spam keeps junk emails out of your inbox.

We would also suggest

Tupperware Brands to use the
built-in Firewall which is inside
the same package with the avast!
Internet Security as it is more user
friendly. It is able to prevent
unauthorized access from an
unknown source and it’s available
in both hardware and software.

In conclusion, we are able to complete our assignment regarding to researching and obtaining
information from the Tupperware Brands company, and also able to receive their cooperation for
the interview to help us in our assignment. We are able to obtain the five (5) components of
Information System, which are Hardware, Software, Data/Information, People and Procedure.
