Amendment to Schedule 8 for Ceiling Fans
1. Scope:
1.1 This schedule specifies requirements for inclusion under standards and
labeling programme for ceiling fans. Following sweep sizes of ceiling fans
would be eligible for grant of star rating under this program.
900 mm, 1050 mm, 1200 mm, 1400 mm, 1500 mm.
1.2 The referred Indian Standard is IS 374:2019 (Specifications for Electric
Ceiling Type Fans) with all amendments, as applicable.
2. Schedule of Tests:
2.1. Method of Tests:
The testing method and procedure shall be as per IS 374:2019 with all amendments, as
applicable.
2.2 Parameters to be tested:
Parameters for initial verification and challenge testing are the mandatory type tests
listed under clause 18 of IS 374:2019 with all amendments, as applicable for
determination of service value.
3. Conditions of compliance:
The performance requirements would be in accordance to clause 15 of IS 374:2019
including all amendments, as applicable. For compliance with the requirements of this
standard, the rated quantities of air delivery and service value shall not be inferior to
the minimum values specified in Table 1 of IS 374:2019 given below:

NOTE : Air delivery values are on the basis of air velocity measurement upto 15.m/min
4. Star Rating Plan:
Based on the threshold values laid down under IS 374: 2019 including all amendments, as
applicable, there shall be two separate star rating plans based on sweep sizes of ceiling fans.
For sweep size < 1200 mm (i.e. 900 mm and 1050 mm), the star rating plan would be:

Note: In accordance with Table 1 (Performance values for fans) of IS 374: 2019 including
all amendments, as applicable
For 1400 mm, minimum service value for fans shall be 4.1 (for 1 star)
For 1500 mm, minimum service value for fans shall be 4.3 (for 1 star)
5. Tolerance limits:
The performance values claimed are minimum values & shall be subject to tolerance, if any
as per clause 15.2 of IS 374: 2019 including all amendments, as applicable.
6. Sampling for Check and Challenge testing:
The samples of ceiling fans would be picked up by BEE or its designated agency. The
testing would be conducted at the NABL accredited laboratory. Two samples of the specific
model would be picked up at random from the retail outlet for the purpose of check testing.
7. Qualifications:
For participation under BEE’s star labeling program, every ceiling fan, being manufactured
or sold or imported in the country shall,-
(i) Conform to all the performance requirements laid down in IS 374:2019 including
all amendments, as applicable ;
(ii) Carry BIS licensing (i.e. ISI marking) or Quality Certification such as ISO – 9001
or above.
8. Particulars of the label and manner of display:
The label design, manner of display & contents would be as per Annexure-1 of the Schedule
8.

9. Payment Terms:
(i) Application fee: An application fee of Rs. 2000/- per model shall be paid online
while submitting fresh application for registration.
(ii) Renewal fee: Renewal fee/ degradation fee of Rs. 1000/- per model shall be paid
online for renewal of authority to affix labels.
(iii) Labelling fee: Label affixation fee shall be Rs. 1/- per ceiling fan model.

LABEL DESIGN AND MANNER OF DISPLAY
1.1 PLACEMENT
All ceiling fans must display the label at the point of sale. The label shall be affixed on
motor of ceiling fan.
For units not on display, the label may be attached to the exterior of the packaging having
the same directions of display. The label must be attached to the unit when the unit is
removed from its packaging.
1.2 MATERIAL AND SHAPE
The label shall be an adhesive label of non-perishable material when used on the switch
housing / switch cup, if it is to be attached as a display on the exterior of the packaging
then the label may be displayed by printing on the casing or a self-adhesive label, as
applicable
