If we classify into their level of formality (situation), consider the speaker and listener, here they are:

To respond help, people may accept or refuse an offer of helps. The common respons for help is “Thank

Offering Something (Menawarkan Sesuatu)

Ini adalah ungkapan yang disampaikan untuk menawarkan suatu barang, bantuan, atau pertolongan kepada
orang lain. Dalam bahasa Inggris, contoh ekspresi yang sopan untuk menawarkan sesuatu kepada orang lain
adalah:

* Your bag looks heavy. May I help you carrying it? (Tas Anda kelihatannya berat. Bisakah saya bantu
membawanya?)

* Would you like a cup of hot tea? (Anda mau secangkir teh panas?)

* I have just bought a good book, would you like to read it too? (Aku baru saja beli buku yang bagus, kamu
ingin membacanya juga?)

Sedangkan Offering Help adalah menawarkan yang secara spesifik tentang bantuan yang bisa diberikan pada
orang lain. Misalnya:

* Is the English homework difficult? Let me help you doing it. (Apakah PR Bahasa Inggrisnya sulit? Akan
kubantu mengerjakan)

1. Offering help formal


Jenis kalimat yang satu ini cenderung kurang bervariasi karena menggunakan modal verb tertentu untuk menekankan
kesopanan. Modal verb biasa digunakan untuk menyampaikan izin atau pertanyaan dengan sopan. Contoh modal verb
yang biasa digunakan antara lain May, dan Could.
Meskipun sering digunakan, bukan berarti modal verb menjadi patokan untuk membuat kalimat offering help. Anda juga
tetap dapat mengungkapkan penawaran bantuan menggunakan kata tanya seperti What atau How. Simak beberapa
contoh kalimat offering help berikut ini untuk membantu Anda memahami konsep menawarkan bantuan secara formal.

– Would you like some help?


– May I offer my assistance?
– Should I open the door?

– How am I supposed to help you?

2. Offering help informal


Menawarkan bantuan dalam kalimat informal mempunyai variasi yang lebih banyak karena biasanya tidak terlalu
memperhatikan tingkat kesopanan. Jenis ini juga kerap muncul dalam latihan soal offering help. Anda bisa membuat
kalimat menggunakan kata seperti Can, Do, What, atau How. Simak contoh offering help informal di bawah ini.

– Do you need some help?


– Can I offer you a hand?
– What do you want me to do?
– Can I help you?
– Can I do something?

Cara Menjawab Offering Help


Sebelum menuju latihan soal offering help, ada baiknya untuk mempelajari tentang cara menjawab offering help. Hal ini
bertujuan untuk membantu Anda mengidentifikasi jenis pertanyaan berdasarkan jawaban yang telah tersedia dalam
dialog. Soal semacam ini seringkali muncul untuk menguji seberapa dalam pemahaman Anda dalam materi offering help.

Secara garis besar, jawaban dari tawaran yang diberikan ada 2, yaitu Yes dan No. Meskipun demikian, terkadang soal
tidak secara ekspilit menuliskan kalimat Yes atau No untuk mengecoh Anda. Sebagai gantinya, digunakan kalimat lain
untuk menuju pada maksud yang sama. Berikut ini adalah contoh cara menjawab offering help:
