ABSTRACT
The study entitled “Sustainability of Selected Street food Vendors in Brgy. San Juan
Taytay, Rizal as Source of Income.”
The purpose of this study is to help young culinary students and entrepreneurs who
want to put up a Macro or Micro business in terms of deciding for the better source of income
for their chosen business. It is also be an inspiration and motivation for them to build a
business like street food.
The target population of the study are the street food vendors in Brgy. San Juan Taytay
Rizal during the third term of academic year 2019 of Taytay Senior High School (TSHS)in
Binhing Pag-asa Brgy. Dolores taytay Rizal those students are belong in technical Vocational
Livelihood (TVL). The researchers will consider a sample of 20 respondents. These samples
shall be randomly selected through simple random sampling is sub-set of individuals chosen
from a larger set.
The data gathered in this study were treated coding which is an analytical process
through which data in both quantitative form and qualitative form are categorize to facilitate
analysis.
To determine the significant differences between demographic profile of the
respondent and the level of sustainability in terms of child education, daily needs, and budget
for bills, one way Anova single factor were used.

Chapter 1
The Problem and its Background
This chapter presents the Introduction, Background of the Study, Statement of the
Problem, Hypothesis, Significance of the Study and Scope and Limitation.
Introduction
The street food industry has an important role in the cities and forms of many
developing countries in meeting the food demands of the urban dwellers (Muinde & Kuria,
2005). In developing countries, drinks meals and snacks sold by street food vendors are
widely by millions of people, these street foods provide an affordable source of nutrients to
many sectors of population. Street foods are well appreciated by consumers, because of their
taste, low price and availability at right time. Street foods are defined as ready-to-eat foods
and beverages prepared and/or sold by vendors on the street from push-carts or buckets or
balance poles or stalls or from shops having fewer than four permanent walls.
Street food are “ready to eat” food and beverages and sold by vendors especially
in the street and other similar public places. Most street food are classed as both finger food
and fast food and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. Since it was cheaper than
any foods sold in shops and stalls many people must preferring street food and also because
it’s delicious, available and affordable.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The focus of this study entitled “Sustainability of Selected Street food Vendors in Brgy.
San Juan Taytay, Rizal as Source of Income”

Street foods were undeniably one of the oldest and fastest growing industries in our
country (Mang Tony. 2012). It penetrated our culture that it became part of our everyday lives
especially those people in a hurry, in the middle of heavy workloads and never-ending
deadlines. For them street foods are not bad at all, in fact, it help them save time and money
as well. And this kind of business are very popular to our country and having a great
contribution to our economy, most of people are wanting to eat street foods because of the
affordable price. There is no doubt that food intake is essential for survival but an important
proportion of food consumption is driven by pleasure. Areas of street food vending are
generally park lots, public squares, local markets, or sidewalks of the cities, and those spaces
are easily accessible in walkable neighbourhoods. Although these attributes provide
convenience to some extent, in most cases consumers could only sit on a public bench or
eat by standing, and this may be a little uncomfortable for consuming food especially when
compared to the conventional restaurants. Since food itself and environment are important
stimulus for desire and consumption of the food (Mela. 2006), the vivid atmosphere of street
may evoke arousal and pleasure for customers and promise for an exciting and enjoyable
meal experience. (Newman. 2013) suggest that street food vendors significantly contribute
to create vibrant urban spaces which could deliver hedonic values despite its form of
uncomfortable consumption. (Vieira Cardoso. 2014) posit that people still continue to
consume street food although they have doubts about safety and quality of the food. As stated
before, atmosphere of street vending sites appears to have a direct and significant impact on
this sustained patronage. Supporting this view found that consumers rely on aesthetic
appearance of environment and trustworthiness of the vendor in street food consumptions.
Therefore, it is plausible to state that atmosphere of street foods which consists of ambience,
food, and social factors is expected to affect consumers’ perception of hedonism. More
specifically, vividness, liveliness and colourfulness of the atmosphere.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This research focus on finding the level of Sustainability of Selected Street Food
Vendors in Brgy. San Juan Taytay Rizal as Source of Income
Specifically, this study shall seek answers to the following questions.
1. What is the Demographic profile of the respondent in terms of;
1.1 Gender
1.2 Age
1.3 Education Attainment
2. What is the level of sustainability in terms of;
2.1 Child’s Education
2.2 Daily needs
2.3 Budget for bills
3. Is there a significant difference on the level of sustainability in terms of Child education,
Daily food needs o and Budget for bills.
Null Hypothesis
There is no significant difference between level of sustainability in terms of Child
education, Daily food needs and Budget for bills.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
They can use this research as an instrument for them to become a successful street
food vendor.

The purpose of this study is to help young culinary students and entrepreneurs who

It is also important to the researchers and to future researcher because they can use
the knowledge they get to the study for planning a business.
Scope and Delimitations
This study focuses in the Street food vendors. The total number of the respondents
are 20 persons. The researchers choose a location in New Taytay Public Market Brgy. San
Juan Taytay, Rizal. The age is estimated 20-50 years old and above and it has an
irrespectively gender.
This study is limited in the level of sustainability of street food vendor as source of
income in terms of child education, daily needs and budget for bills.
The researchers include the profit or income of the street food vendors to know if they
can sustain the needs of their daily life.

Chapter 3
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
The Quantitative research design used in the study is descriptive. A design seek to
describe the current status of a variable or phenomenon. The researchers does not begin
with a hypothesis, but it develops one after the data is collected- data collection is mostly
observation in nature.
Sample
The target population of those study are the street food vendors in Brgy. San Juan
Taytay Rizal during the third term of academic year 2019 of Taytay Senior High School
(TSHS)in Binhing Pag-asa Brgy. Dolores taytay Rizal those students are belong in technical
Vocational Livelihood (TVL). The researchers will consider a sample of 20 respondents.
These samples shall be randomly selected through simple random sampling is sub-set of
individuals chosen from a larger set.
Research Instrument
The researcher instrument used this study is coding. Coding is an analytical process
in which data in both quantitative form and qualitative form are categorize to facilitate
analysis, Wikipedia (2016) that contains the choice of Strongly agree which is equivalent to
(4), Agree (3) Disagree (2) and the last is Strongly Disagree which is equivalent to (1).
Data Collection Procedure
The researchers write a permission letter with signed of the principal of Taytay Senior
High Stand Alone and to the adviser of these subject. Researchers meet up and set the day
of a survey. On that day. Researchers do a survey with full of respect. After they answered

the questionnaire given, the researchers give an incentive to the respondents and say Thank
you for the cooperation and appreciation of those study. The researchers went home and do
how to get the mean of the profile of every variable of the questionnaire.

Statistical Treatment
The data gathered in this study were treated according to specific problem;
To determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender,
educational attainment, frequency and percentage distribution were applied.
To know the level of sustainability of street food vendor as source of income at Brgy.
San Juan Taytay, Rizal in terms of child education, daily needs, and budget for bills, mean
was applied.
To determine the significant differences between demographic profile of the
respondent and the level of sustainability in terms of child education, daily needs, and
budget for bills, one way Anova single factor were used.

Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Data
This chapter deals with presentation, analysis and interpretation of the gathered data based
from the sub-problems of the study.

Based on table 1 it shows the demographic profile of the respondent. First profile is
gender, the highest frequency is 17 male which has the percentage of 85 while the lowest

frequency is 3 female which has the percentage of 15. Second profile is Age 51 above. The
third one is the Educational Attainment of the respondents the highest frequency is 17 the
Highschool Graduate has the percentage of 85 while the lowest frequency is 3 the elementary
who got the 15 percent.

Based on the result of table 2 is shows tje punctuality of the vendors. The highest rank
is question number 1. I am satisfy in the staffs that won’t be late while the lowest rank is
question number 4-5. I am satisfy on the punctuality of the vendors and all of the questions
got the verbal interpretation of all the questions are strongly agree.

Table 3 shows the results of the vendors income in terms of: the highest rank are
questions number 1-5, researchers satisfy on the vendors income, the lowest rank is the
question number 3-4, the researcher satisfy on the vendors income in terms of daily needs.
The verbal interpretation of all the questions are strongly agree.

In table 4, show the result of the vendor’s income in terms of budget bills. The highest
rank is question number 1. Researchers contented in the vendors’ income. The lowest rank
is question number 5, Researchers contented because they are attentive and concern
strongly agree is the verbal interpretation of all questions.

Based on table 5, there is no significant difference between the level of sustainability
of street food vendors as source of income in terms of child education, daily need and budget
for bills, because the probability value which is 0.7 is higher than 0.05 which is the level of
not significant that is why the null hypothesis is accepted and verbally interpreted as not
significant.

Summary of Findings, Conclusions and Recommendation
This chapter present summary of finding of the study, conclusions from the findings and
recommendation.
Summary of Findings
In light of the findings in the preceding chapters, the following summary were drawn:
1. On weighted mean on profile respondents on the level of sustainability of street food
vendors as source of income in terms of child education:
1.1 The computed mean based on the survey is 3.2 which interpreted as “Strongly
Agree”
2. On weighted mean on profile respondents on the level of sustainability of street food
vendors as source of income in terms of daily needs:
2.1 The computed mean based on the survey is 3.2 which interpreted as “Strongly
Agree”
3. On weighted mean on profile respondents on the level of sustainability of street food
vendors as source of income in terms of budget of bills:
3.1 The computed mean based on the survey is 3.1 which interpreted as “Strongly
Agree”
3.2 Significant between child educations, daily needs and budget for bills
3.3 As the result, the probability value is 0.07 which is verbally interpreted as not
significant and the null hypothesis is accepted.

Conclusion
The researcher is conclude that null hypothesis is accept therefor there is significant
difference between the demographic profile and the level of sustainability of street food
vendors as source of income. So that the chosen demographic profile of the researchers
respondent are relevant to the variables given. They are all contented to the income they get
as a street food vendors.
Recommendation
The following recommendation of the researchers for the street food vendors and future
researchers.
1. It can be a part time or a job someday.
2. It can be an instrument for the street food vendors.
3. It will be a guide to the researcher and to the future researchers to have and to build
business like street food.
4. It is a good impression to those who are business thinkers.
