LAB SHEET MEM564
GENERAL INFORMATION
MEM564 labs are designed to provide hands-on experience with a variety of manufacturing
processes. It is constructed parallel to the MEM560 Manufacturing Processes lecture. Each
experiment will be relatively simple in nature, but provide the student with a good understanding
of the certain various processes from a theoretical viewpoint. Most of the experiments will show
actual results against those calculated and provide the opportunity to examine any differences
and conclude what may have happened. Variety of experiments will be covered. In this
laboratory you will be exposed to the common manufacturing processes such as CNC milling,
CNC plasma cutting, electrical discharge machining, vacuum casting, die casting, friction
welding, injection moulding and metrology. Laboratory experiments will consist of demonstration
and hand of experience of the above mentioned processes.
This laboratory divided into two parts:
(1) Demonstration on selected processes. (die casting and friction welding)
(2) Group project. (CNC milling, CNC plasma cutting, electrical discharge machining, vacuum
casting, metrology)
You are required to submit a report after completion of 5 laboratories session. Your Report
should contain all items below;
1.0 Title:
2.0 Objectives
1. To study the principle operation of selected manufacturing processes
