Nidhi Blood Report

The patient's beta human chorionic gonadotropin (BHCG) level was measured and found to be less than 0.100 mIU/ml, which is within the normal reference range for a non-pregnant woman. BHCG is a hormone produced during early pregnancy and maintains the corpus luteum. While a quantitative blood test can typically detect BHCG between 6-12 days after ovulation, levels may vary widely in the first 4 weeks of pregnancy. BHCG can also be elevated in gestational trophoblastic diseases.

Clinical Significance
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a hormone produced by the Placenta during early pregnancy and later by the
syncytiotrophoblast (Placental Tissue). Human Chorionic Gonadotropin maintains the Corpus Luteum of
Pregnancy.
As a pregnancy test, quantitative blood tests and the most sensitive urine tests usually detect B-HCG between 6
and 12 days after ovulation. However, it must be taken into account that total B-HCG levels may vary in a very
wide range within the first 4 weeks of gestation, leading to false results during this period of time. Gestational
Trophoblastic Disease like Hydatidiform Moles or Choriocarcinoma may produce high levels of β HCG;
Uses : The levels of HCG may be measured in blood/ urine.
1. Pregnancy Test to detect the presence or absence of an implanted embryo.
2. Diagnosis or monitoring of germ Cell Tumors and Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases.
3. As a component of the triple test, a screening test for certain fetal chromosomal abnormalities / birth defects.
