Lesson Reflection 1 Flower Parts

The teacher gave a lesson to 26 KG2/4 students about flower parts and what plants need to grow. During the lesson in the carpet area, the students were able to understand and answer questions without being told the answers. In centers, students did related activities like counting seeds, tracing words, planting seeds, and drawing/labeling flowers. The students responded well because the teacher used visuals and modeling to make the lesson easy to understand in both Arabic and English. The lesson met the goal of teaching flower parts and plant needs, but the teacher needs to improve time management and closing instructions.

AAWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

Select (S):

Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing

The Lesson is about the flower parts and what does the plant needs to grow.

Describe (D):

Who is the lesson for? The lesson was for KG2/4 students where they are 26 students

Where did the lesson take place? The lesson was taken in their classroom

What were you trying to achieve in your lesson? In this lesson, I was trying to let them know that part
of the flower and what does the plant needs to grow and let them be able to say all the key words.

What did the students do? While I was teaching them in the carpet they were able to understand me
and they were able to know the answers without me telling them the answers. In the centers I did math
center, writing center, science center, and art center. In the math center the students had have a
worksheet where there are 5 boxes empty and a dice, they have to throw the dice and count how many they
get, so if they got 3 they have to add 3 seeds in the seeds boxes after they finish all the boxes they should add
altogether and write down the answer. In the writing center, the students had like a book diary they l trace
the words (seeds, steam, leaves, roots, flower) after they finish tracing they draw it.
In the science center the students had a cup, seeds, soil and water, they have to follow the instructions and
apply it like, you have to put 3 seeds after you put the soil. In the art center
In this center, they had colures and strews, sticks and leaves that will help them to draw the flower and its
part. They draw the flower with their hands and they choose what they want to draw the stem with, they will
have had two choices one with the stick and the other with the strew. And for the leaves they will had original
leaves that they must press it on the colure and print it in the paper that it’s in front of them. And the last
center they had cutted sun, drops of water, flowers, leaves, stems, and roots they had to make a whole flower
and place each one with the label of it. First, they had to label the name of the plants needs and then they
labeled what does the plant needs to grow

Analyze (A):

Why do you think the students responded the way that they did? Because I tried as much as I can
to use words for them and tried to model for them to let the lesson easy for them and I also
explained it for them in Arabic and then repeat it in English

How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

How well did you engage the students? In the circle time, I showed them a poster of a flower where
there’s a label’s after I finish explaining for them I hide the labels and let them tell what are words. And I
bought a real flower and try to get the difference between two flowers.
Appraise (A):

Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective? The students learn about the
part of the flower and what does a plant need to grow

Did your lesson meet your teaching goals? In somehow it did, I match the activities with the student’s
levels and what will make the lesson fun for them, but in somehow, I found difficulties in managing the time
and in the closing part.

Transform (T):

How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future? They will be able to know the
parts of the flower, and what does the plant needs to grow

What are the implications for your professional practice? My MCT told me that I had to manage
the time, and must tell them before they finish from the centers to clean up after they finish
because I told them to get back to the circle after they finish without telling them to clean up. And
my MST told me that I did well but I had to tell the students to present what they did in the
centers and show the other students what they did.

I used Reggio Emilia theory because all the center the students used natural resource and all the
activities were hands on activities
