TEACHING SEQUENCE:
At snack watch Story Bots “why do I need to recycle” (20 min)

Students will sit on the carpet and participate in a group discussion about what they already know about the 3 R’s. Teacher will have the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle) up on the board. Ask students what they learned from the video. (10 min)

Introduce the 3 R’s- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle


What is it? Yogurt container (reuse), cloth grocery bag (reduce), mason jar (recycle)
Ask students to share their at home practices. Do you recycle at home? Do you turn off lights? (15 min)

Have students move to the tables. Students will get a Eco Warrior book when they are sitting with quiet, calm bodies. Hand out Earth Warrior books
Go over the first page of the Eco warrior books together. The protocol will be that each day students will add their eco warrior book to their back and forth bag.
At home they will do a check mark when they have done one of the sustainable practices. Each sustainability lesson we will start by looking at the eco warrior
book and praising environmentally friendly practices. Students will also make a goal for the following week. (15 min)

My Goal: How will you make a change? A sentence on the first page of the Eco warrior book on how they will make change in their lives to help the planet

Notes: students may sit at tables, on the floor, or in the hall as long as they are not disrupting others. Go over expectations (if too noisy, if not on task, if
moving around too much they will return to the class) (2 min)
