Recycling Management Plan

Ownership
Who will be taking ownership of the recycling system?

______________________________________________________________

Waste Contractor
Have you determined what scope exists with current cleaning, waste
collection arrangements to incorporate recycled streams. Is the waste
contractor able to provide a recycling service?
______________________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________

Materials Recycling Facility

What types of recyclable materials are generated at the site/venue?

By public______________________________________________________

By caterers/vendors______________________________________________

Does the MRF accept all types of recyclable material generated at the
site/venue i.e. liquid cartons?

______________________________________________________________

Does the MRF used by your waste contractor accept recycling collected in
plastic bags, what levels of contamination does the MRF accept?

If the MRF does not accept recyclable materials contained in plastic bags
there are two options to ensure the recycling collections do not get rejected.
Those servicing the bins can either:

a) service the recycling bins using clear plastic bags and ask staff to
empty the recyclable materials from the bags into the skip/allocated
container at the back of house, or
b) service the recycling bins by replacing full recycling bins (and place
at back of house for collection), with empty recycling bins. Do you have
enough bins?

______________________________________________________________
Attendees
How many people attend the event/meeting and how many bins will you need
(assume 1.5 litres waste/recycling generated per person/day)?

______________________________________________________________
What are the patterns of movement by the public across the site, where
should bins be located?

______________________________________________________________

Recyclable Materials
How will volume and weight of packaging sold, impact on size and number of
waste and recycling bins required

For the public __________________________________________________

For the caterers/vendors__________________________________________

Vendors
Where will the bins be placed to service the Vendors at the events, what
recyclable materials will be targeted?

______________________________________________________________

How will you communicate recycling system to the vendors, who will have this
responsibility?

______________________________________________________________

Do vendors have an obligation to preference reusable items or disposable

items that are recyclable?

______________________________________________________________

Will your vendors display messages/signage promoting the appropriate waste

disposal behaviour at the point of sale?

______________________________________________________________

Have your vendors been made aware of any onsite recycling services and
agreed to participate in diverting materials appropriately to these services?

______________________________________________________________

Have your vendors made their staff aware of their commitment to participate
in any recycling services?

______________________________________________________________
Cleaning Staff (including volunteers)
Have staff, cleaning, catering and contractors been alerted to your plans and
understand what is required of them and what their role is to be?

______________________________________________________________

Who will lead in communicating how to operate the recycling system to staff?

______________________________________________________________
Is there a communication plan in place between vendors and cleaners to
ensure that adequate services are provided DURING the event/meeting or the
event preparations?

______________________________________________________________

Can recycling bins be effectively emptied and serviced by the waste

contractor, where will the bulked recycling be presented for collection by the
waste contractor?

______________________________________________________________

Who will have responsibility for maintaining bins, what frequency will this be
undertaken?

______________________________________________________________

Data Collection
Who will ensure the waste/recycling contractor is aware of the EPA data
requirements?

______________________________________________________________
Who will provide EPA with the data?
