Petron Corporation

I. Company Overview

 History
Petron traces its rich heritage to September 7, 1933 when Socony Vacuum Oil Company of
New York and the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey merged to form the Standard
Vacuum Oil Company or Stanvac. After suspending operations in World War II, Stanvac
promptly resumed its operations in 1945 and helped rebuild a newly-independent nation.

In 1957, Stanvac started constructing a refinery in the province of Limay, Bataan to meet the
country’s growing fuel needs. At the time of its inauguration in 1961, it had a refining capacity
of 25,000 barrels of crude oil per day. At the time, this was the most modern refining facility
in South East Asia.

The end of Standard Oil and Socony Vacuum’s partnership in 1962 gave birth to Esso
Philippines. Even then, we were already an innovations leader introducing the country’s first
bottled LPG Esso Gasul and first high-octane gasoline, Esso Extra.

In 1973, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) acquired Esso Philippines at the height
of the first oil crisis and renamed it Petrophil Corporation. We were able to deliver on our
promise to ensure a continuous and reliable supply of fuels during this critical period.

In February 1988, Petrophil was rechristened Petron Corporation. Amid the most difficult and
trying times the country faced, including the Gulf War of 1991, Petron readily worked hand-in-
hand with the national government.

 Nature of Business
Petron Corporation (Petron) is a Philippines-based company is engaged in the refining of
crude oil and the marketing and distribution of refined petroleum products. The Company
sells a range of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas
(LPG), diesel, jet fuel, kerosene, asphalts and petrochemicals (benzene, toluene, mixed
xylene, propylene and polypropylene). It exports naphtha and petrochemicals. Petron sells
its products through an across the nation network of service stations, LPG dealerships and
lube outlets, and to industrial end-users and bulk off-takers. It holds franchises of local food
chains, leases space to other consumer services, food kiosks and restaurants. The Company
has developed various specially formulated products, such as Petron Fully Synthetic 5W-40
API CJ-4/SN and Petron Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid. Petron's bulk petroleum products are
refined from crude oil at the Petron Bataan Refinery in Limay, Bataan.

II. Production System

 The first step in processing crude oil is the distillation or separation process.
 Heat is applied to separate various components of crude oil such as LPG, naphtha (used in
gasoline), diesel, kerosene and fuel oil. Lighter components such as naphtha are easier to boil
and are collected at the upper part of the distillation column. Heavier components such as
fuel oil accumulate at the bottom of the column.
 The products undergo more processes to meet strict quality and environmental
specifications. Raw naphtha, for example, is sent to a Reformer Unit. The Reformer uses a
catalyst to increase the octane number of naphtha while producing LPG, gasoline, and
reformate.
 Meanwhile, reformate is further converted to become petrochemical feedstocks Benzene,
Toluene, and Mixed Xylene. Our diesel production goes through a Hydrotreater to reduce
sulfur content.
 They also fully convert fuel oil into higher value transportation fuels through “cracking”
units namely our Fluidized Catalytic Crackers and Delayed Coker. Other products in the
process are fed to a Recovery Unit which produced more LPG and the petrochemical
propylene.

 Product Description
o Automotive Fuels- the only fuel in the country that meet the most stringent emission
and quality fuel standard in the world. It is recognized as the best gasoline in the market
and has been tested, time and again, under extreme racing conditions. Has a new
formulation and now boasts of a Cetane Number (CN) of 60. It is ideal for high-end
vehicles with new generation, turbo-charged diesel engines, as its high cetane and
premium additive formulation is customized to deliver extraordinary engine
performance and a more enjoyable driving experience.

o Automotive Lubricants- high-technology gasoline engine oil designed for ultimate

engine protection and better long-term engine performance. In hot climate conditions
and congested city traffic, engines are often exposed to excessive engine heat and
increased wear and tear, which reduces the engine’s lifespan.

o High Temperature Protection- is a high-premium, PAO-based fully synthetic 0W-40

gasoline engine oil specially formulated with high quality base oil, Polyalphalolefin, and
an advanced additive system to meet the most severe and stringent requirements of
high-performance gasoline engines.

o Industrial Petroleum- providing premium commercial fuels and lubricants to customers

in essential industries including land and marine transport, aviation, power-generation,
manufacturing, agriculture, mining, etc.

o Marine Lubricants- which marine lubricating oils are especially designed for new
generation and highly-rated piston diesel engines. It is formulated with quality base oils
and leading edge additive technology that provides excellent TBN retention and
superior engine cleanliness.

o Motorcycle Lubricants- a range of high-performance 4-stroke motorcycle oil formulated

with Thermal Control System (TCS) advanced additive technology. It is a premium
performance motorcycle oil specifically formulated for motorbikes with automatic
transmission. It offers ultimate engine protection and excellent engine cleanliness,
superior shear stability to resist oil thinning, and reduction in noise and vibration for
smooth engine drive and acceleration.

o Petron gasul- is recommended for ovens, furnaces, gas engines, gas stoves, gas lamps,
singeing in textile plants, pilot flame in boilers, cutting, soldering and brazing operations
in metal fabrication. It is manufactured to meet stringent safety standards including wall
thickness, weld integrity and valve fitting.
 Waiting Line Management
o Petron Corporation operate one of the most advanced refineries in the region and
source most of our crude oil from the Middle East.

o They have a combined refining capacity of 268,000 barrels-per-day, producing a full-

range of world-class fuels and petrochemicals to fuel the lives of millions of Filipinos and
Malaysians.

o Here in the Philippines, the company supply nearly 40% of the country’s total fuel
requirements through the operation of 180,000 barrel-per-day oil refinery in Bataan.

o The company deliver safely and efficiently from PBR (Petron Bataan Refinery), moving
the petroleum products mainly by sea to 30 strategically-located terminals across the
country.

o There are there at every touchpoint wherein they boast of having the most extensive
service station network which numbers 2,400. In which the consumers can find a Petron
station even in far-flung areas.

o Petron Corporation also retail Petron Gasul and Fiesta Gas LPG in nearly 14,700 branches
nationwide to serve Filipino families
